SEED Entrance Exam 2027: Symbiosis Institute of Design is expected to open the SEED Application for B.Des in the first week of August 2026. Candidates will be able to fill the registration form online. Candidates are requested to read the eligibility criteria before filling the SEED Application form 2027. The exam will be held in the second week of January 2027. Candidates are required to take the SEED Written Exam, Portfolio Review, and Personal Interaction (PRPI).

The registration process for M.Des will open in the first week of January 2027 and the exams are expected to be held in the first week of May 2027.

What is SEED?

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). Candidates who qualify in the SEED appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The merit list of SID will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the written exam, PRPI, and Personal Interaction. The SEED exam evaluates candidates on parameters like color, geometry, visual observations, general design awareness, creative thinking abilities, and awareness of Indian culture, craft, traditions, etc.

Q:   Are there any coaching classes/ preparatory classes for SEED exam preparation?

As per information on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate can decide whether they want to join any coaching institute or not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparation classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

Candidates can also download online study material after paying the charges.

Q:   In which mode SEED Entrance Exam will be held?
A: 

SEED Entrance Exam will be held online for B.Des and M.Des for all stages. The test will be of one hour long, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on the test day.

Q:   When will SEED conduct entrance exam for B.Des?
A: 

SEED will conduct B.Des entrance exam for Round 2 in the second week of March 2027. The exam will be conducted online and can be taken from home.

SEED 2027 Eligibility Criteria & Application Form

Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the eligibility criteria of SEED 2027 for admission to the B.Des and M.Des programs. The candidate must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, as otherwise they may be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

  • Cleared Class 12 (from any stream, e.g., Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent (Or)
  • Cleared 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).
  • Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to the 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
  • Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. With a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes).

SEED 2027 Application Form

SEED Application will open shortly for B.Des and M.Des. The application form for SEED 2027 has to be filled out online.  

How to fill out the SEED 2027 Application Form?

  • In the registration form, enter details like email ID and mobile number to get registered. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created.
  • Fill in your personal, academic, and contact details. Also, select the SEED Test Centre preference.
  • After the application fee is completed in all respects, pay exam fee of INR 3,250. The fee has to be paid online using net banking, credit and debit cards.
  • After ensuring that the application is complete in all respects, submit it.

If you are seeking admission to the B.Des program, you can opt for SEED and NIFT. NIFT is the most important national level entrance exam in the country for design. NIFTs are ranked among the top design colleges in the country. So, NIFT should be your first preference. Keep SEED as a backup option.

The candidate can download the SEED - MDes Information Brochure from the SID admission portal. The brochure can be downloaded in PDF format. 

Q:   Will there be a window to edit the SEED application form?
A: 

The Symbiosis institute of Design (SID) usually does not have an application correction windows. So, candidates must be careful when filling out the SEED application form. Note that if any incorrect information is furnished in the application, the candidate may be disqualified. The SID admission committee will check candidate information at the time of counseling and seat allotment.

SEED 2027 Exam Pattern, Syllabus & Preparation

As per the official website, the candidates have to appear for the SEED 2027 exam, and those qualifying for the exam will be shortlisted for portfolio review and personal interaction rounds. The exam pattern for SEED 2027 will be such that aspirants have to attempt 60 multiple-choice questions. All the process of the SEED Entrance Exam will be held in a computer-based mode.

SEED is unlike other entrance exams in that it is conducted in a remote-proctored mode. Here, we discuss some easy-to-follow tips for SEED preparation 2027.

  • Make SEED preparation 2027 strategy considering the syllabus. For instance, you need to allocate more time for difficult topics, spare time for revision, and include SEED sample papers and SEED mock tests.

SEED 2027 Admit Card

The Symbiosis Institute of Design is expected to release the Admit card for SEED 2027 in the first week of January 2027 for Round 1 and in the third week of January 2027 for Round 2. The admit card has to be produced to take the exam. If the candidate doesn't produce the admit card, they will be stopped from taking the exam.

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to the second year. So, candidates have to take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2027 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

SEED Result for B.Des are expected to be declared in the third week of March 2027 and the declaration of SEED Shortlist for PRPI will also be done in the last week of March 2027. The first merit list of SEED 2027 B.Des and M.Des is expected to be released in the third week of April 2027.

The SID admission portal mentions nothing about the validity of the SEED scorecard.

Nonetheless, it can be presumed that the SEED scorecard will be valid for the current admission session only. So, if you qualify in SEED, you need to apply for admission in the current academic session only.

Admission to the B.Des course at the Symbiosis Institute of Design 2027 will be conducted in the following sequence. SEED Entrance Exam will be conducted in online mode. Check the detailed list of SEED 2027 test centers.

  • Apply for SEED 2027: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria have to fill out the form before the last date. As part of the application process, the candidate will have to get registered, fill in all essential information, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
  • SEED 2027 Admit Card: Successfully registered candidates can download admit cards from the SID admission portal.

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. NIFT is attempted by some 50,000 candidates every year and is considered the toughest entrance exams in the country, along with NID and UCEED.

Q:   When will the Symbiosis Institute of Design release then official syllabus for the SEED exam?

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will release the updated syllabus for the SEED 2027 exam on its official portal at the time of release of the application form or sometime thereafter. The candidate can download the syllabus online. The SEED 2027 syllabus will contain the topics that the candidate needs to prepare for the SEED 2027 entrance exam. 

Q:   Does SID offer any short term / distance courses through SEED?

  • SID doesn't offer any short term/distance courses. The institute presently offers only full-time undergraduate degree courses.
  • At the UG level, the institute offers a regular B.Des program, while a hybrid M.Des program is offered at the PG level.
Q:   When will the SEED written exam be conducted?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) is expected to conduct the SEED 2027 written exam on January 11, 2027 (tentative).

Q:   Can I make partial payment for M.Des seat-acceptance fee through SEED?
A: 

Candidates who are allotted seats will have to pay seat-acceptance fee within the given deadline. If the payment is not made, allotment will be cancelled. Vacant seat will be offered to the candidate next in the order of merit. Also, there is no option to make a partial payment.

Q:   Will SEED exam be conducted in center-based mode?
A: 

SEED exam will be conducted online for all programmes. There will be no offline exam centre. You can give exam from your home, but you should have proper internet connection.

Q:   Do I need an elementary drawing exam certificate for admission to the B.Des program through SEED?
A: 

Candidates are not required to submit an elementary drawing exam certificate for the Admission Procedure at SID. The candidate merely needs to meet the academic, qualifying exam, and age criteria. Eligible candidate next needs to appear in the SEED 2027. Those qualifying in the exam will have to next appear in a PRPI round.
