What is SEED?

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). Candidates who qualify in the SEED appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The merit list of SID will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the written exam, PRPI, and Personal Interaction. The SEED exam evaluates candidates on parameters like color, geometry, visual observations, general design awareness, creative thinking abilities, and awareness of Indian culture, craft, traditions, etc.

SEED Entrance Exam 2026 will be held online for B.Des and M.Des for all the stages. The test will be of one hour, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on the test day.

Q:   Are there any coaching classes/ preparatory classes for SEED exam preparation?

As per information on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate can decide whether they want to join any coaching institute or not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparation classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

A: 

SEED conducted B.Des entrance exam for Round 2 on March 22, 2026 (Sunday). The exam was conducted online and can be given from home.

Nonetheless, it can be presumed that the SEED scorecard will be valid for the current admission session only. So, if you qualify in SEED 2026, you need to apply for admission in the current academic session only.

Q:   I have done foundation program/Diploma from another institute. Do I need to appear in SEED 2026 or I can get direct admission?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to the second year. So, candidates have to compulsory take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2026 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

SEED 2026 Admit Card

The Symbiosis Institute of Design released the Admit card of SEED 2026 on January 05, 2026 for Round 1 and March 18, 2026 for Round 2. The admit card has to be produced to take the exam. If the candidate doesn't produce the admit card, they will be stopped from taking the exam.

Q:   When will the SEED 2026 B.Des admit card be released?
A: 

SEED Admit Card 2026 for the B.Des programme was out on January 05, 2026. SEED exam was conducted on January 11, 2026. The admit card will have all the details of the exam.

Q:   Are there any specific requirement for uploading portfolio for SEED PRPI?
A: 
  • Click good quality pictures of these and compile them in a Power Point Presentation of maximum 15 slides. Convert this into a PDF of up to 5 Mb.
  • Take pictures that are different from others. Do not copy others.
Q:   Can I apply for SEED 2026 offline?

The application form of SEED 2026 has to be filled online. There is no option to apply for the exam in offline mode. 

To fill out the form, go to the SID admission portals. Click on the registration link and get registered. Upon registration, an applicant account will be created. 

Next, log in to the portal complete the rest of the form, including uploading of documents and payment of fees.

Also, don't download the online application form, take a printout, fill it, and send the complete application to the admission office.

SEED 2026 Exam Pattern, Syllabus & Preparation

As per the official website, the candidates have to appear for the SEED 2026 exam, and those qualifying for the exam will be shortlisted for portfolio review and personal interaction rounds. SEED is unlike other entrance exams in that it is conducted in a remote-proctored mode. Here, we discuss some easy-to-follow tips for SEED preparation 2026.

SEED 2026 Eligibility Criteria & Application Form

Symbiosis Institute of Design released the eligibility criteria of SEED 2026 for admission to the B.Des and M.Des program. The candidate must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, because otherwise, the candidate can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

  • Cleared Class 12 (from any stream, e.g., Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent (Or)
  • Cleared 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).

SEED Eligibility Criteria 2026 for M.Des

  • Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to the 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
  • Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. With a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes).

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will release the updated syllabus for the SEED 2026 exam on its official portal at the time of release of the application form or sometime thereafter. The candidate can download the syllabus online at - sid.edu.in. The SEED 2026 syllabus will contain the topics that the candidate needs to prepare for the SEED 2026 entrance exam.

Q:   Does SID offer any short term / distance courses through SEED 2026?
A: 

SID doesn't offer any short term / distance courses. The institute presently offers only full time Under- Graduate degree courses.

At the UG level, the institute offers a regular B.Des program, while a hybrid M.Des program is offered at the PG level.

Admission to both courses will be through the SEED 2026 entrance exam.

Q:   When will the SEED 2026 written exam be conducted?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) conducted the SEED 2026 written exam on January 11, 2026.

SEED exam will be of 1 hour duration (to be conducted between 10 am to 4 pm). The exam slot allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the admit card.

On exam day, the candidate has to be ready an hour so before the exam to ensure all pre-exam formalites are comleted on time. The SEED exam will be being conducted in an online proctored mode.

Q:   Can I make partial payment for M.Des seat-acceptance fee through SEED 2026?
A: 

Candidates who are allotted seats will have to pay seat-acceptance fee within the given deadline. If the payment is not made, allotment will be cancelled. Vacant seat will be offered to the candidate next in the order of merit. Also, there is no option to make a partial payment.

Q:   Will SEED 2026 exam be conducted in center-based mode?
A: 

SEED 2026 exam will be conducted online for all programmes. There will be no offline exam centre. You can give exam from your home, but you should have proper internet connection.

Q:   Do I need an elementary drawing exam certificate for admission to the B.Des program through SEED 2026?
A: 

Candidates are not required to submit an elementary drawing exam certificate for the Admission Procedure at SID. The candidate merely needs to meet the academic, qualifting exam, and age criteria. Eligible candidate next needs to appear in the SEED 2026. Those qualifying in the exam will have to next appear in a PRPI round. The final results would be prepared by giving weightage to the SEED 2026 exam and the PRPI.
