IIT Madras AI Courses: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched five free online courses on Artificial Intelligence through the SWAYAM Plus platform. Designed for students, faculty, and working professionals, these courses range from 25 to 45 hours and require no prior knowledge of AI, making them accessible to all. The AI courses offer several key highlights: they are aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and focused on enhancing employability. They feature hands-on activities, real datasets, and case study-based learning.

  • AI in Physics – Delves into the application of AI tools such as machine learning and neural networks to solve real-world physics problems. The course features hands-on labs and interactive modules across core physics concepts.
  • AI in Chemistry – Introduces AI-driven approaches in chemistry, covering areas like molecular property prediction and chemical reaction modeling using real-world datasets and Python programming.
  • AI in Accounting – Tailored for commerce and management students, this course links core accounting principles with AI applications. Learners gain practical experience using Python and datasets to explore automation in accounting processes.
  • Cricket Analytics with AI – Explores sports analytics through the lens of cricket. Using Python and data science techniques, students analyze real-world cricket data via case studies and data visualization.
  • AI/ML using Python – A beginner-friendly course that lays the foundation for artificial intelligence and machine learning. It covers Python programming, statistics, linear algebra, optimization, and data visualization, all applied to real-world problems.

Who can apply for IIT Madras Free Online AI Courses?

The AI courses are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students from all academic disciplines, including Engineering, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Interdisciplinary studies. Faculty members from higher education institutions are also encouraged to participate. No prior knowledge of AI or coding is required, basic digital literacy and a willingness to learn are all that’s needed.

Highlighting the importance of these programs, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras, said, “These Courses, which are aligned to the National Credit Framework (NCrF), can be taken by Higher Education Institutions as a credit program for the upcoming academic calendar as well. These courses aim to make AI accessible across disciplines – not only to engineering students but also to those from arts, science, commerce, and other fields.”
