KEAM 2026: The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations conducts the Kerala state-level entrance exam - KEAM, for UG engineering and pharmacy admission. The Kerala Engineering, Architecture, and Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM) is a common admission process for various UG courses offered at Kerala's colleges approved by Central and State Regulatory Bodies, Universities, and the Government.

Under KEAM, there is a KEAM entrance test and a KEAM centralised counselling process (CAP). For the UG engineering course and pharmacy course admission, candidates have to register for KEAM, appear for the KEAM CBT test and then appear for CAP counselling for admission. The KEAM 2026 exam will be held in CBT mode in April 2026, and the KEAM registrations will open in February 2026 at cee.kerala.gov.in.

However, for admission to all other courses that are medical, agriculture, forestry, veterinary, fisheries, and architecture courses, candidates have to register for KEAM and appear in the KEAM centralised counselling process (CAP) with their applicable entrance exam scores (like NEET and NATA) for admission to participating colleges.

What is KEAM?

The Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) takes the responsibilty of conducting KEAM anually. Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) is a state-level UG admission process for courses like Engineering, Architecture, MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda, Homoeo, Siddha, Unani, Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Fisheries, Pharmacy, Co-operation & Banking, Climate Change & Environmental Science, and BTech Biotechnology.

Admission Process via KEAM

Note that Kerala Engineering, Architecture, and Medical (KEAM) is an admission process. It comprises two parts - an entrance exam for UG engineering and pharmacy admission and a centralised admission process (CAP counselling) for UG medical, agriculture, forestry, veterinary, fisheries, and architecture courses based on various national-level entrance exam scores like NEET and NATA.

The candidates interested in admission to any of these courses have to register for KEAM. However, only the UG engineering and pharmacy aspirants will have to appear for the KEAM entrance exam; the rest of the candidates will have to directly register for CAP with their applicable national-level entrance exam marks.

Candidates Appearing for KEAM Exam

In 2025, a total of 1,19,974 (86,549 for Engg and 33,425 for BPharm) appeared in the KEAM exam. On average, around 85,000 to 90,000 vcandidates appear for KEAM engineering exam and around 30,000 to 35,000 take the pharmacy exam.

KEAM Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have passed Class 12 exams to be eligible for KEAM. CEE has not specified any attempt limits for this state-level exam; however, candidates must be at least 17 years of age as of December 31 in the year of admission.

KEAM Syllabus and Pattern

CEE issues the KEAM 2026 syllabus PDF, and the questions in the exam are based on the topics mentioned on the official syllabus.

KEAM 2026 entrance exam for engineering admission will have questions from  Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. While the BPharm candidates have to appear for Physics and Chemistry only. The KEAM entrance exam for engineering courses consists of 150 questions, with Mathematics having 75 questions, Physics having 45 questions, and Chemistry having 30 questions. Candidates get 180 minutes to complete the exam.

For candidates appearing for the KEAM exam BPharm ONLY, the entrance exam has 45 questions in Physics and 30 questions in Chemistry, to be completed within 90 minutes. Each correct answer fetches four marks, while every incorrect answer results in a deduction of one mark.

Changes in KEAM Exam Pattern

KEAM went through major transitions in 2024, which will be applicable in the coming session too:

Offline mode to CBT mode: KEAM exam transformed from an offline pen-and-paper test to a computer-based test.

Exam in shifts: The exam is now conducted in phases, as it is not possible to arrange over 1.2 lakh computer terminals at the same time.

Normalisation of scores:  The normalisation of scores for engineering and pharmacy exams was introduced.

Mock tests: The Facility to take mock tests on entering the exam hall for 15 minutes before the actual exam starts was incorporated.

Effective post-exam activities: The post-examination process now takes less time, such as answer key release and result declaration. Previously, over three to four weeks were required to scan the OMR sheets. Once the exam went computer-based, evaluation became faster, with the scores being made available to the candidates in the shortest time.

KEAM Engineering Selection Criteria

Selection of candidates for engineering admission via KEAM will be based on a rank list drawn by giving 50:50 weightage to KEAM entrance exam scores and plus two marks. Hence, along with the state-level LEAM entrance exam, candidates also need to score good marks in the Kerala plus two board exams.

Changes in KEAM rank list preparation

In 2025, to calculate the marks in KEAM for the preparation of KEAM rank lists, marks were considered in a 1:1:1 ratio across Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. However, a few days before the release of the KEAM rank list, this formula was changed by the introduction of a new ratio of 5:3:2, giving more weight to Mathematics, followed by Physics and Chemistry. The reason cited for this change was that the former method of standardisation gave undue advantage to the students of CBSE and other state boards.

This change was challenged in the Kerala High Court, and the court ordered the reordering of ranks based on the earlier 1:1:1 subject weightage. Read more...

This led to the cancellation of the KEAM engineering ranks list, and a revised rank list was released. Read more...

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Can I rearrange options priority in KEAM CAP?
A:

A candidate may change their KEAM option priority any number of times within the time schedule permitted. The priority of options registered and saved at the time of closing of the facility for registering options alone will be considered for processing. No candidate will be allowed to register options afresh to any stream at any stage after the stipulated time as notified by the CEE. The option list once finalized cannot be augmented after the stipulated time for registering options. But the modification of the option list will be allowed only for cancellation/deletion and for re- arrangement of priority of options at the time specified in the notification by the CEE.

Q:   What is the process of registering options in KEAM Option Registration Page?
A:

Candidates can register KEAM option by entering the option number for a course-college combination the candidate can fix their preference numbers for the course-college combinations displayed in the Option Registration Page. Here all the eligible options of the candidate will be displayed coursewise and the candidate is expected to enter their preference number for a particular combination.

Q:   How to complete the KEAM option registration and how can the registered options be saved/revised?
A:

All eligible options of the candidate will be displayed on the KEAM Option Registration Page. The candidate may follow the directions given therein to register the options.
