NIT Calicut Celebrates 20th Convocation: 1,979 Graduates Conferred with Degrees Across Diverse Disciplines

NIT Calicut held its 20th Convocation, awarding a record 1,979 degrees. George Kurian, Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, was the chief guest.
The 20th Convocation of the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) was held on campus, marking a milestone with a record 1,979 degrees conferred. The graduates included 1,169 B.Tech., 57 B.Arch., 442 M.Tech., 23 M.Plan., 56 MCA, 44 MBA, 94 M.Sc., and 94 PhD recipients. The ceremony was graced by the Honorable Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, George Kurian, who served as the chief guest.

A. Anjana from the Civil Engineering branch, who achieved the highest CGPA of 9.88/10 among all outgoing UG students, was honoured with the ‘Er. M L Bapna Gold Medal’ and a cash prize of INR 11,111. She also received the ‘Prof. Allesu Kanjirathinkal Memorial Award’ and an additional cash prize of INR 10,000 for being the top performer across all UG programs.
Among the PG students, Syed Abdul Khader Jeelan Arafath, from the M.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), secured the ‘Er. M L Bapna Gold Medal’ and a cash prize of INR 11,111, with a CGPA of 9.9/10. The top performers from the Institute's 10 B.Tech, B.Arch, 24 M.Tech, M.Plan, 3 M.Sc., MCA, and MBA programs were awarded Gold Medals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective specializations.
“When India accomplishes Viksit Bharat 2047, the young graduates of today will be the leaders of the country, leading industry and economy,” said Shri. George Kurian, Hon. Minister of state for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. The duty of the government and the professionals will be to support the people and enhance their income by promoting and marketing their efforts, he said adding “Each and every moment of your life, you will be contributing to the country”.
Prof. Prasad Krishna, Chairperson, BoG in-charge & Director (NITC), presided over the function declared the convocation ceremony open and presented the report. NITC is the largest NIT in the country with over 7800 students, 425 faculty and 330 staff members, said Prof. Prasad Krishna.
Highlighting the placement achievements of NITC, Prof. Prasad Krishna said “196 companies recruited from NITC in 2023-24 academic year, leading to 1,011 placements for graduates”. Undergraduates secured jobs with the highest salary of INR 50.6 lakhs, while postgraduates had a maximum salary of INR 39.3 lakhs, he said adding that the average salary for the year was INR 10.86 lakh.
