IIT Roorkee Admission 2026: Cutoff, Fees, Eligibility & Selection

Yes, IIT Roorkee offers around three scholarships, including Merit-Cum-Means (MCM), James Thomason Scholarship, INSPIRE Scholarship IITR. Apart from this, the institute also offers several fee waivers and assistantships on need and merit basis. Presently, IIT Roorkee offers more than 65 UG, PG and doctoral degree courses.  It awards the degree of BTech, MTech, MSc, BArch, MBA, MSc, PhD along with a couple of integrated and dual degree courses in the fields of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management and Social Sciences. Yes, at the research level, IIT Roorkee offers a PhD programme in both full-time and part-time modes across the streams of Science, Engineering & Technology, Management Studies, and Architecture & Planning. As per the details collated from various sources on the internet, PhD admission to IIT Roorkee is subject to a valid score in one among UGC NET/  CSIR NET/ JRF, institute-level written test followed by a Personal Interview round

To be eligible for MBA programme offered at IIT Roorkee, candidates need to possess a graduation degree/ professional qualification in any stream from a UGC-recognised university with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates). Final year students are also eligible to apply. The course is offered by the B-school under IIT Roorkee, namely DOMS IIT Roorkee. 

For last year, the closing rank for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering was 5075 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission in IIT Roorkee.

For students belonging to the General AI quota, most of the BTech branches remained open till the last round for admission at IIT Roorkee. The cutoffs of different branches vary across rounds and categories. Some of the BTech branches, such as CSE, ECE, Civil, and Mechanical, etc., reflected a rise in the last round, closing ranks as compared to initial rounds, indicating IIT Roorkee seats remained vacant till the last round for BTech admission. Whether the branch will remain open till the last round or not depends on the availability of seats allocated for each category. IIT Roorkee admission to its flagship courses BArch and BTech is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced Counselling. For admission, students are required to apply for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced for admission to IIT Roorkee BTech. The aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in).

Followed by JEE Main, students are required to register for JEE Advanced. Next, candidates have to fill in the registration form, upload scanned certificates, and pay the application fee. The photo and signature in the online JEE Advanced application form will already be populated from the JEE Main application form.

IIT Roorkee is not considered very expensive relative to private institutions, but it is costly. The course fees of numerous programs fluctuate from INR 1,000 - 10,70,500, depending on the selected course.  But it offers great placement opportunities to its students.

IIT Roorkee JAM cutoff 2025 was released for round 1. The cutoff was released for admission to MSc specialisations. The cutoff ranks varied between 23 and 223. The cutoff was most stringent for admission to MSc in Economics and most lenient for admission to M.Sc. in Mathematics. IIT Roorkee offers six specialisations under its BSc programme. These specialisations are spread across various fields of studies such as Physics, Mathematics, Computing, Chemistry and more. The course duration for the BSc courses is four years. The college also offers a five-year Integrated BSc+MSc programme for students willing to pursue a PG integrated course.  Admissions to all these courses are made based on merit in JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced.

DOMS IIT Roorkee considers CAT score for admission to flagship course i.e. MBA. Besides, students are also evaluated based on their academic performance, work experience and performance in the personal interview round. The institute conducts a PI round to select candidates for EMBA programme. DOMS IIT Roorkee shortlists aspirants for PhD course based on GATE, JEST, UGC NET, etc. scores. 

Through JEE Advanced ranks, candidates can secure admission to BTech courses. With regards to the admission, the IIT Roorkee cutoff 2025 has been released for the first round by the institute. The cutoff was released for different categories under the All India quota. For the General AI category candidates, the cutoff ranks varied between 535 and 16596, for different BTech/Integerated BTech/BSc/BArch courses. For 2023, cut off was 2037 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech in Electrical Engineering in IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 5040 was the closing rank. BTech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.
