NIFT conducts spot counseling for the seats that remain vacant after all the regular seat allotment rounds. This round is conducted at the last and is an opportunity for the candidates to get into NIFT if they have missed the chance to get into the admission process at NIFT. NIFT Spot Counselling
NIFT SPOT counselling is ongoing. It is being conducted after the 3rd round of NIFT Regular Counselling. It is conducted for students who have not secured a seat in the subsequent round of counselling. The NIFT Spot Counselling portal is the same as in the case of other rounds: nift.admissions.nic.in. For 2026, the SPOT counselling began from July 19, 2026. The document verification rules will be the same as those done in regular rounds of counselling. The choice filling was done till July 23, 2026 and seat allotment was done on July 24, 2026.

Commonly asked questions
No, you cannot get into NIFT colleges that you have not listed in your counselling application.
- The NIFT counseling process is done after the exam to allot colleges to qualified students in participating institutes.
- Once the NIFT exam results are announced by the NTA, NIFT will declare its counseling schedule.
- You will be required to participate in the counseling process at your preferred institute. The university will assign you to a NIFT Institute based on your score, rank and preferences.
- If you have not listed any college, you will not get a seat allocation in that college even if you meet the qualifying cutoff.
NIFT Counselling Process has the following steps:
- Registration and Choice filling by the candidates
- Uploading of documents
- Paying the Seat Acceptance Fee
- Document Verification
- Receiving of Allotment Letter.
You will not be offered any direct admission to NIFT Delhi even if you are a class 12th topper. Candidates must fill the NIFT Entrance Application and appear for the exam. If they clear the cutoff, admission is offered.
The NIFT 2026 written exam is the 1st stage of the entrance exam and includes the CAT and GAT. The results for the NIFT written exam were announced on March 20, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria for NIFT Spot Counselling
All the eligible candidates, including absentees of previous rounds of NIFT counselling, will be allowed to participate in NIFT Spot Round of counselling, except those who became ineligible during document verification due to cut-off marks or any other valid reasons, age.
Who can register for NIFT 2026 Spot Round?
- Candidates who are eligible and have a Common Merit Rank (CMR)
- Candidates who have been allotted a seat and paid the fee in previous rounds.
- Candidates who have not been allotted a seat in previous rounds of SeatAllotment.
- Candidates who have been allotted a seat in the 1st to 3rd Round but have not paid the fees.
- Candidates who have withdrawn the seat allotted in previous rounds of Seat Allotment.
- Candidates with a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) who have not registered for Seat Allotment and/or not filled in preference/choice filling & not uploaded the required documents during the registration for Seat Allotment.
- All the Eligible Candidates having a common merit rank under NLEA (Lateral Entry Admission)
Who is not eligible for NIFT Spot Counselling 2026?
Candidates who became ineligible during NIFT counselling registration or document verification process of the main counselling.
Commonly asked questions
The NIFT exam includes two stages - The candidate first appears in the written exams, and if shortlisted has to next appear in a Situation Test/ Personal Interview (PI).
Note that the written exams for the B.Des and M.Des program includes the GAT and CAT, whereas for the other programs the written exam includes only the GAT.
The final score for the B. Des programme will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in CAT, GAT and the Situation Test. In case of the B.FTech programme, the merit list will be prepared based on GAT scores.

Yes, a non-refundable registration fee is applicable during the counselling process. The amount and payment details will be mentioned in the official counselling notification.
Yes, there is NIFT Counselling fee. Candidate have to pay a registration fee of INR 9,300. The candidate will have to pay a seat-acceptance fee of INR 1,83,200 only if he or she has been allocated a seat.
There will be three rounds of counselling in NIFT Counselling . One round of spot counselling is also expected if there are seats left.

What is the registration fee for NIFT Spot Round?
The registration fee for SPOT Counselling is INR 5000. Read on the various criteria for this fee payment.
- Newly registered candidates will pay the participation/registration fee of Rs.5,000/- before choice filling.
- Candidates who have already got a seat by paying acceptance/academic fee and have not withdrawn in any previous NIFT rounds are exempted from the participation/registration fee.
- Candidate who have already secured the seat by paying acceptance/academic fee and they withdraw their seat in any previous rounds will pay the participation/registration fee of Rs. 5,000/- before choice filling.
- The fee is non-refundable.

How to fill Choice & Lock Colleges and Courses in SPOT Counselling?
- Candidates who have filled the participation fee of INR 5000 and have verified the documents will be allowed to fill the choices in case of NIFT Spot rounds.
- All the choices will be shown to the candidate irrespective of whether a seat is available or not, because during processing, a few virtual vacancies may arise.
- For all provisionally admitted candidates who have already paid the admission fee, if they desire to participate in the Spot Round, then during choice filling, the provisionally admitted campus & program where he/she has already completed admission will not appear in the list of available choices.
- After locking, the admitted choice will automatically be added to the last position of newly filled choices.
- ‘NIFT Lock Choice’ button will be activated as per SPOT counselling schedule.
- If candidates fail to lock their choices by the last date & time, their last saved choices will be automatically locked by the system after the deadline given.
- All the features supporting choice filling will be the same as the main NIFT counselling choice filling process.
