In case you are in your Class 12, then of course, the Board examinations are the top priority. Besides this, there are a few more things to take care of:
The NIFT exam is among the competitive and is also considered among the toughest. So, it is recommended that the candidate starts their exam preparation early. NIFT exam has various components like written exam and Situation Test /Personal Interview. Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam. Now unless the candidate is already well-versed, the exam will be very difficult. So, start early. The same goes for the GAT.

- If you are among the lucky few who made it through the NID written, then you must start with your preparations for Studio Tests, Personal Interview & Portfolio presentation. Do so under expert mentorship.
- You are advised to apply for the upcoming entrance examinations of other premium design & art colleges like NIIFT Mohali, FDDI, IICD, Pearl Academy, MITID, and a few others. All these examinations are expected to be held between April & June, where similar preparations of GAT & CAT subjects are required, which would not be a problem because all candidates have undergone the NIFT written exam. One must ensure NOT to lose touch with the same and practice regularly to maintain/improve upon speed & accuracy as well.
- This holds equally good for the aspirants busy with NID stage 2 & 3 and also for all those who might make it past NIFT stage 1, the results for NIFT entrance exam will be declared in April 2025. It is strongly advisable to fill all reputed colleges’ forms & write the entrances, until one has finally made it through either NID entrance exam or NIFT exam.
- All those who make it past NIFT written entrance, have their task cut out clearly for them. Put your nose to preparations for the Situation Test. This is a highly competitive stage having a good 20% weightage in the final merit. This needs to be taken very seriously and demands careful preparation. We shall be dedicating a full chapter on the same in upcoming days.
- The students who have Maths in their class XII and are aiming for Architecture, for them, now is the time to concentrate on their preparation for NATA & other B. Arch. Entrances. The registrations for NATA happen between March & August, whereby one writes the exam within a few days of registering. One must start practicing from previous years’ question banks in a time-bound manner.
- The aspirants who are interested in Art, fine art, or commercial art, also need to gear up. They must zero in on a choice of 7-8 Art colleges of their liking and prepare for their entrances too. The Art colleges release their forms by April/May, some around the board's result declaration time.
- Students who have qualified through UCEED, also need to keep a tab on all the colleges under its umbrella and apply promptly to them. Please remember, UCEED is a qualifying examination, one needs to follow the complete admission protocol for all the colleges under its umbrella individually too.
Wishing luck for the results of the written examination to all aspirants!

During the Situation Test, the candidate will be provided with a set of materials. Using these materials, the candidate will be required to make specific models. In this test, candidates are required to create a 3D model based on the question asked for, which they are given 2 hours, within which they need to conceptualize and complete the model.
After completing the mode, the candidate will also have to draft a write-up, which is evaluated by the jury later. Note that besides material exploration & management skills, NIFT also lays great emphasis on time management skills and students are closely monitored on the fact that whether they have managed to complete the task at hand in two hours or not.
