A perfect balance needs to be maintained by the working professionals while preparing for GATE. Chalking out a perfect plan and sticking to it till the end helps in easing out the preparation process.
The common question that comes in the mind of every working candidate is “How can we prepare for GATE while continuing with a job?” Many aspirants have complained about the GATE syllabus being too lengthy and that they could not get much time for preparation. The conventional GATE candidates start their preparation at least a year in advance, this gives them the advantage over others to complete the syllabus well in advance and during the last month revise all the topics.

The candidates appearing for GATE exam while working in corporate often find it difficult to prepare for the exam. These candidates should start preparing for the exam well in the exam. The key factors that working professional should keep in mind to prepare for GATE are discussed in this article.
If the candidate aims to qualify GATE 2020 then they must start preparing for each subject with complete determination. It is observed that the same challenge is faced by a fresh graduate or someone who has been working in the corporate world for the last two to three years. To overcome this challenge, first, the candidate needs to understand the exam pattern. This includes the type of questions asked, the marking scheme, and the number of sections in the paper.
- The duration of the test is three hours
- The test paper consists of 65 questions for 100 marks
- The type of questions are Multiple-Choice Questions and Numerical Ability Test
- There will be 1 mark and 2 marks question only
- One-third marks and half mark will be deducted for every wrong answer of one mark and 2 marks question respectively
- General Aptitude – It is mandatory for all the papers.
- Subject-specific section
The working professionals, who are not confident of some of the GATE subjects, could join a weekend coaching to kick start their preparation. They could also take online coaching classes and prepare according to their preferred time. Revise the topics and take mock tests during the weekend. Make the schedule and stick to it to get results.
Maintain contact with other candidates to stay updated and take help, if required. In case, covering the complete syllabus is not possible then focus and prepare the sections with more weightage.
