Channelling the efforts in the right direction in the last week is crucial to score well in the competitive exam.
In the last week, every student needs to formulate and implement a plan to achieve their set goals.
Revising everything in the last week is a challenge for every student. Hence, one must channel their focus and efforts on the most scoring and rank-boosting topics in the last week before the scheduled exam.

Scoring topics
Talking about Electrical Engineering, the approximate weightage of questions is as below-
High weightage topics
These topics carry the most weightage,i.e. around 40-45 marks. Hence, these topics should be prioritised.
1) Machine Learning
2) Power System
3) Power Electronics
4) Control Systems
5) Network Analysis
Moderate priority
The following topics carry around 30-35 marks
1) Microprocessor
2) Digital Electronics
3) Analog Electronics
4) Electromagnetic Field Theory (EMFT)
The exam is quite unpredictable, therefore, the students should focus on covering all the topics. So, it is preferable to have adequate knowledge, if not profound, of each topic.
Apart from this, the sections that would help in enhancing the rank are Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude.
Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude carry 15 marks each, i.e. a total of 30 marks out of 100 marks.
Hence, almost one-third of the scores could be gained by mastering these two sections.
The best books are:
- GATE Engineering Mathematics by Made Easy Publications
- BS Grewal
- Advanced Engineering Mathematics by Erwin
Last week tips and tricks
- I would suggest, devote the entire last week in solving mock tests and previous year papers. This would help in giving an idea about the types of questions frequently asked. Also, jot down the questions that require more time in solving and others that could be done with ease. This would help tremendously in the final examination.
- Don't stress much and stay relaxed and confident
- Go through the general aptitude questions thoroughly
- Avoid starting any new topic in the last week as this might lead to confusion.
Self-evaluation
Writing mock tests would help in analysing the level of preparation. Also, solve the mock tests within the stipulated time to enhance speed and accuracy. Most of the students can perform roughly in a similar manner as they perform in the mock tests. Hence, students should solve as many papers as possible and analyse their performance. Identify the weak areas and work on them. This is a good way to secure high marks in the exam.
