Most Registered Papers in GATE 2025

As expected, core engineering branches had most registrations. GATE CS had a total of 207,851 registrations, followed by GATE CE with 101,596 candidates and EC with 97,394 applicants. Besides that, EE had 83,255 registrations and ME with 79,830 applicant registrations. Interesting thing to note- newly introduced branch/subject Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) had a total of 75,854 registrations, showcasing growing demand in data and AI-related roles. 

Q:   How can I get admission to IIT Madras for BTech?
A:

Admission to the BTech courses offered by IIT Madras are entrance-based and done on the basis of scores obtained in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Seats are allocated through JoSAA counselling after the results of the entrance exams are out. Students who clear the IIT Madras BTech cutoff are then required to go through document verification and pay the required fees to complete the process.

Q:   What are the options available when I receive an offer of joining/admission in COAP?
A:

After receiving the admission offer letter from GATE COAP, counselling candidates will have three options available to perform, which can be checked below-

  • Accept and freeze
  • Retain and wait and 
  • Reject all and wait
Q:   Which IIT Roorkee branches remain open till the last counselling round for admission?
A:

For students belonging to the General AI quota, most of the BTech branches remained open till the last round for admission at IIT Roorkee. The cutoffs of different branches vary across rounds and categories. Some of the BTech branches, such as CSE, ECE, Civil, and Mechanical, etc., reflected a rise in the last round, closing ranks as compared to initial rounds, indicating IIT Roorkee seats remained vacant till the last round for BTech admission. Whether the branch will remain open till the last round or not depends on the availability of seats allocated for each category. In the meantime, candidates can check out the round-wise cutoff details for a few BTech branches of IIT Roorkee for the students belonging to the General AI quota.

GATE 2025 Category-Wise Cutoff Analysis: General, OBC/EWS, and SC/ST/PwD Categories

The GATE cutoff is announced based on different factors, such as paper difficulty, candidate's performance, and number of applicants registered. Check below the cutoff of GATE 2025 of popular streams  (CS, ME, EC, and CE)

Some papers like Humanities and Social Sciences had fixed cutoff for all categories. GATE DA (Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) paper had moderate cutoff (General category- 29) which shows that it can grow in coming years. GATE 2025 DA paper had a relatively moderate cut-off at 29 for GEN, which suggests exam may have been balanced in terms of difficulty, considering its popularity and new-age relevance.

Q:   What is the mode of the GATE 2026 counselling?
A:

The GATE counselling is conducted online by CCMT and COAP. Authorities will announce GATE results 2026 on March 19. Qualified candidates can participate in counselling. COAP is done IIT and IISc admission and CCMT for NITs and other institutions.

Q:   When will GATE 2026 counselling process start?
A:

The GATE counselling process starts after the announcement of results. The GATE counselling is conducted by COAP and CCMT. The COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) is the counselling portal that offers admission to IITs. While CCMT (Centralised Counselling for MTech/M.Arch/M.Plan) is the counselling portal that offers admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs. The GATE CCMT/COAP counselling usually starts in the second or third week of May. 

Q:   Can I get direct admission into IIT Roorkee for MBA?
A:

No, IIT Roorkee does not offer direct admissions. All candidates seeking admission are required to appear for CAT. It is a national-level entrance test conducted by the IIMs. Moreover, this exa is genereally conducted in the month of November.

No, passport size is not mandatory to carry. Along with GATE hall ticket, students must carry their valid ID proof, pen or pencil and water bottle. Scribe applicants can carry their assistive devices.
