GATE 2025 Cutoff Analysis: With 9.3 lakh registered candidates and 7.47 lakh appeared candidates for GATE 2025, it remains one popular postgraduate entrance test to offer higher education admissions and PSU recruitments in India. That being said, IIT Roorkee has released GATE cutoff marks along with total of applicants applied. Most Registered Papers in GATE 2025

As expected, core engineering branches had most registrations. GATE CS had a total of 207,851 registrations, followed by GATE CE with 101,596 candidates and EC with 97,394 applicants. Besides that, EE had 83,255 registrations and ME with 79,830 applicant registrations. Interesting thing to note- newly introduced branch/subject Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) had a total of 75,854 registrations, showcasing growing demand in data and AI-related roles.

The GATE cutoff is announced based on different factors, such as paper difficulty, candidate's performance, and number of applicants registered. Check below the cutoff of GATE 2025 of popular streams  (CS, ME, EC, and CE)

Some papers like Humanities and Social Sciences had fixed cutoff for all categories. GATE DA (Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) paper had moderate cutoff (General category- 29) which shows that it can grow in coming years. GATE 2025 DA paper had a relatively moderate cut-off at 29 for GEN, which suggests exam may have been balanced in terms of difficulty, considering its popularity and new-age relevance.

  • Average Appearance Rate - The appearance rate remains around 80% for most papers, with Computer Science, Civil, and Data Science showing strong numbers in terms of registration and attempts
  • Competitive Papers on Spotlight - Papers like Mathematics and Physics had many participants with GATE cutoffs (25 and 26.8, respectively), slowly hinting strong career opportunities.
  • Top GATE Cut-offs - Mechanical Engineering (ME), Metallurgical Engineering (MT), and various XH subjects had cut-offs ranging from 35 to 40, showing relatively easy paper or high performance

In GATE, normalisation process generally makes a gap of 4 to 7 marks (approximately) between actual and normalised scores. However, if difficulty level of paper was high then the marks might increase. On other hand, for easier paper, marks may reduce offering fairness across sessions.

No, there is no subject-wise cutoff mark for GATE exam. The scores along with minimum-qualifying cutoff will be released (category-wise) along with normalised score.
