In the admission through the quota, other students would get preference over the deserving candidates and the deserving candidates would be forced to get out of this admission race.

In the COMEDK exam, apart from the reserved classes’ quota, there is an additional reservation for linguistic minorities which is also in the colleges accepting admission through COMEDK. The linguistic minorities are the Tamil, Tulu and Telugu students from the integrated regions of Karnataka -Hyderabad (HK).

Almost all the colleges of Karnataka also accept admission through a different entrance exam, i.e. Karnataka Common Entrance Test or KCET. The seat break-up for admission in colleges - almost half of the seats are through KCET while the other half through COMEDK.

It is not considered a problem for open/ general category students, as they are used to deal with such a situation. In the state governed colleges, one could expect to get admission, however, the situation is worse when it comes to the private colleges. In all the private colleges, a certain number of seats is reserved under the management quota and these seats could vary from 10% to 50% of the total seats under this quota. The seats are limited, however, the students appearing for these courses are too high. The price for each management seat is high, therefore, it becomes difficult or impossible for a student from a middle-class background to get admission in their dream college or their desired course.

Also, at the time of counselling for this exam, if the score and other things of two students are the same then the preference is given to the state students only. Hence, students must focus on clearing the entrance exam like COMEDK with high scores to get admission without any quota.
