Work in an organisation, perform well there and if you still have the burning desire to go to PSU, attempt GATE again and give your best shot.
We have been or will be at that point in life where choices seem to be limited. Your GATE result didn’t turn as expected and it feels as if you are are the only victim. It is okay to get dejected but what is important now is what do to next. Below are some of the tips you can use to decide on your next course of action.
Prepare Well, Reattempt
This will be based on your individual assessment. Have you identified in what areas you have performed not well in the exam? Do take a mock test again and see how much time you are spending on each question. Chances are you are missing out on the easy questions as you have spent too much energy and time on the difficult ones. It is also a good opportunity for you to have clarity on whether you really “want” to crack the GATE exam or is it just because your friends have given and you also went with the bandwagon. This is very important as this will form the basis for your decision. So think and once you take a decision stick to it, perseverance is the key.
Explore colleges based on GATE
No PSU? Pick other organisation
In my opinion, you can look for opportunities in the private sector as there are many organisations which provide good opportunities and handsome pay. Don’t narrow yourself down to just PSUs as you may lose sight of the bigger picture. Work in an organisation, perform well there and if you still have the burning desire to go to PSU, attempt GATE again and give your best shot. Remember it’s completely alright not to clear GATE or get into the desired PSU.
Opportunities after an unsuccessful attempt
There are many good colleges apart from IITs which provide top quality courses for your desired specialisation. So keep on exploring colleges based on your score. In case you are not satisfied with the colleges that you are getting then apply for a job, work there and attempt GATE again. Apart from this, there are many opportunities in the form of doing internships, writing blogs online, working from home. Internships are a great way to experiment on pursuing your interests and you can decide on what type of career you want to pursue. In short, you are just one Google search away from your opportunities. Have a goal and pursue it relentlessly. The path may not necessarily be what you had expected but new opportunities are worth giving a shot.
