The All India Law Admission Test (AILET) is conducted primarily for admission to the BA LLB (Hons.), LLM, and PhD in Law programs offered by the National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi). This exam opens the door for students seeking to gain the legal knowledge and expertise imparted by NLU Delhi. Many of the questions in AILET focus on assessing candidates' foundational understanding of the Indian legal system and, to some extent, international law. Candidates with a strong grasp of these topics are more likely to perform well on the test.

The AILET 2026 exam will take place in December 2025, in offline mode at various test centers across India. AILET 2026 Exam Pattern

As per the AILET exam pattern 2026, there will be three sections in the exam question paper for BA LLB (Hons.): English Language, Current Affairs & General Knowledge and Legal Reasoning. The legal knowledge-related questions will be the part of the Logical Reasoning section. Candidates can check section-wise mark distribution for each section below:

Q:   Will Section A and Section B in the question paper of AILET LLM, be provided together?
A:

Candidates must note that the AILET LLM 2026 Exam pattern was changed last year. The main subjects of AILET LLM 2026 question paper will be as under: Different branches of law (Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, Labour & Industrial Law).

The syllabus of AILET 2026 LLM will have 100 MCQ questions pertaining to different areas of law. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect attempt.

How to Solve Legal Knowledge Questions in AILET? 

To solve the AILET legal knowledge questions, candidates must study fundamental legal concepts and theories. The knowledge of basic legal terms and definitions is compulsory. Candidates are needed to read each question carefully and answer the paper in time. The test taker should also note that there is a penalty of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.

Solving the AILET sample papers will help students to improve their speed of solving the questions. It will also help them to be familiar with the type of questions asked for the AILET exam.  

Q:   Which type of GK questions were asked in the previous year's AILET question paper?
A:

In the last year's AILET question paper for UG course, GK questions were prominently related to static GK. The number of current affairs-related questions was lower. Questions were mainly related to law field and Economics. These questions were related to topics, such as Supreme Court of India, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 
A large number of questions in the section were based on topics related to international relations, such as international alliances, agreements and G20 Summit. 

Other main topics covered in the GK section of the previous year's AILET question paper were awards, sports, geography of India and books and authors.

Q:   When will NLU release the AILET 2026 question paper?
A:

NLU Delhi will release the AILET 2026 question paper after the exam. AILET question paper will release with the answer key.

- Quasi-contracts are obligations imposed by law to prevent unjust enrichment, even without a formal agreement.

  •  Name one case that addresses free consent in contracts.  

- Ranganayakamma v. Alwar Setti is a notable case concerning consent obtained through coercion.

  • What does "undue influence" mean in contract law?  

- It refers to taking advantage of a position of power over another party to obtain consent.

  • Explain "breach of contract."  

- A breach occurs when one party fails to fulfill their obligations under the contract.

  •  What is a "void contract"?  

- A void contract is an agreement that is not enforceable by law from the beginning.

  •  What is the limitation period for filing a suit for breach of contract?  

- Three years from the date of breach.

  • What does "frustration of contract" mean?  

- It means the contract cannot be performed due to unforeseen events, releasing parties from obligations.

Criminal Law

Criminal Law related questions for AILET have been listed as follows,

  • Define "abetment" under the IPC.  

- Abetment means instigating, encouraging, or assisting someone in committing a crime.

  •  What is the punishment for theft under IPC?  

- Section 379 of IPC prescribes imprisonment up to three years or fine, or both.

- An offence where the police can arrest without a warrant.

  • What is the difference between culpable homicide and murder?  

- All murders are culpable homicides, but not all culpable homicides qualify as murder.

  •  Which section deals with "criminal conspiracy"?  

- Section 120A of the IPC.

  • Define "defamation" under IPC.  

- Defamation is harming someone’s reputation through false statements, punishable under Section 499.

  •  What is Section 498A of the IPC?  

- It deals with cruelty by husband or his relatives towards a woman.

  • What is meant by "bail"?  

- Bail is the temporary release of an accused awaiting trial, granted under certain conditions.

Torts related questions for AILET are the following,

  •  Define "negligence" in tort law.  

- Negligence is failing to exercise reasonable care, resulting in harm to others.

  •  What does "strict liability" mean?  

- Liability without fault, applied when a person keeps dangerous substances on their premises.

  • Which case introduced "absolute liability" in India?  

- MC Mehta v. Union of India (Oleum Gas Leak case).

  • What is "trespass to land"?  

- Entering someone’s property without permission.

  •  Define "nuisance" in tort law.  

- An act causing unreasonable interference with someone's use or enjoyment of their property.

  • What is "false imprisonment"?  

- Unlawfully restraining a person’s freedom of movement.

  • Explain "volenti non fit injuria."  

- It means "to one who consents, no harm is done."

  •  What is a "defamation defense"?  

- Truth, fair comment, or privilege can be defenses.

  • Name a landmark case on negligence.  

- Donoghue v. Stevenson established the principle of duty of care in negligence.

  •  What does "conversion" mean in tort law?  

- Wrongful possession or handling of another's property as one's own.

Family Law

  •  Define "adoption" under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956.  

- Adoption legally transfers the parental relationship and rights from the birth parents to the adoptive parents.

National Law University (NLU) Delhi has released the answer keys for the AILET 2026 LLM exam on December 14, after the exam. The objections window is open till December 16, 12 PM. After receiving the objection, the final AILET 2026 answer key will be published.

The AILET Provisional Answer Key PDF has been released on the NLU Delhi website. The AILET Answer Key 2026 is released in two phases. First AILET Provisional Answer Key and then the Final Answer Key.
