CLAT Preparation 2021: How to attempt questions in Current Affairs & GK section?

CLAT 2026 preparation among aspirants has to be top-notch as only a year left for the preparation. While hard work is essential for success in CLAT exam, it is also extremely important to adopt a smart and effective CLAT preparation strategy to ace the law entrance exam. Candidates must note that the consortium has not shared the CLAT Exam Pattern. While keeping that in mind, candidates should know the right techniques to attempt passage-based questions. The Consortium will release the CLAT Exam pattern along with the CLAT 2026 Admission Notification. CLAT Preparation 2026 for Current Affairs including GK: Syllabus Highlights

To start with, let us first check out the CLAT syllabus highlights for Current Affairs including GK section:

  • There will be passages of about 450 words
  • There will be around seven passages in the section
  • The passages will be derived from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing
  • The passages will test not only fact-based knowledge but also your depth of understanding of issues and events of significance

Types of questions that will be asked in the section include:

  • Fill in the blanks for missing information
  • Identification of causes and consequences of events described in the passages
  • Questions about personalities and events associated with the events in the passage
  • Questions about awards, recognitions and other events of significance associated with persons mentioned in the passage
  • Questions about laws and other events of legal significance (such as judgements) associated with the events in the passage
  • Some questions may also test you on historical information and significance of the recent and current events
  • Questions may also relate to matters associated with events mentioned in the passage. For example, for a passage about natural calamity, questions will not only be around that calamity but similar events around the world.

Q:   What is CLAT Exam Timing?
A: 

The Consortium of NLUs conducts the CLAT Exam from 2 pm to 4 pm. The exam is held only in one slot. There are no shifts in CLAT Exam. The exam will be held in pen-and-paper mode. 

Q:   What to carry on the CLAT Exam day?
A: 

Apart from the CLATAdmit Card,  candidates must carry the following documents to the exam centre:

  • Passport-sized photograph (same as the one uploaded with the application form)
  • A valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar card/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Voter ID)
  • Transparent water bottle
Q:   What are the dos and don'ts for CLAT exam day?
A: 
 On CLAT exam day, candidates have to follow a number of guidelines like cooperating with the exam centre staff during identification process, etc.:

CLAT exam day dos:

  1. Reach examination centre at the reporting time mentioned on your CLAT admit card.
  2. Carry two copies of the CLAT admit card, one photo ID card, passport size photos
  3. PwD candidates should carry relevant certificates and documents. 
  4. Carry a blue/black ball point pen for signing attendance sheet 

CLAT exam day don'ts:

  1. Do not carry items such as bags, purses, pencil box, beepers, wrist watch, calculators, mobile phones, electronic devices, scanners, cameras, wireless/Bluetooth transmission or any such communication devices.
  2. Don't wear closed shoes, jewellery made of metal, jackets, clothes with pockets, mehendi on palms. Socks are allowed inside it.
  3. Don't wear caps, hoodies or jackets/shirts with pockets 
  4. Don't be late for exam. Entry gates will be closed 15 minutes before the commencement of exam. 
Q:   When CLAT Objection Window will open?
A: 

Candidates must note that CLAT 2027 Objection Window will open once the answer key is released. Candidates can raise objection on CLAT Answer Key on or before the last date. Once the objections are received, the consortium will publish the CLAT Final Answer Key. Based on that, the CLAT Result will be announced.

It is important for candidates preparing to appear for CLAT 2026, to know about the actual scenario of the GK and Current Affairs. In the CLAT 2025 question paper, the section was analyzed as under: 

  • A lot of unexpected questions were asked from current affairs.
  • Some questions were based on Ukraine war, Drone Shakti, CSR for Business, ISRO etc.

CLAT Preparation 2026 for Current Affairs including GK: Skills to Enhance

In order to ace this section of the law entrance exam, your focus should not just be on standalone facts. Rather, you should be curious to see the universe of facts within which an individual situation manifests.  

For example, if there is a question in the exam about the forest fires in Amazon then you should be curious enough to find out information on forest fires in general, the Amazonas, international climate change policy, Brazil and so on.

Apart from that, having good reading and analytical abilities is important to crack this section of the exam.

  • Make sure to read the entire passage before attempting the questions. This is important so that you can pick up valuable clues about the answers to all the questions on the passage.
  • After reading the passage, ensure you have a good idea about the overall theme or point of focus of the passage. Remember, cramming or remembering every detail of the passage is not important.
  • At the time of attempting the questions, pay close attention to the wordings Sometimes, the language of the questions might be such that it can trick you. For instance, the questions might be framed in a negative manner – Which of the following is not an example of x?
  • Make sure of reading all the four options before answering a particular option to avoid errors

  • Develop a habit of reading good newspapers and periodicals such as The Hindu, The Telegraph, etc. Do not skip reading the editorial and opinion sections of the newspapers.

No, CLAT is not compulsory to take admission in Ishaan Institute of Law. The institute offers admission into the courses such as LLB, BA LLB and LLM based on the merit achieved by the candidates in their last qualifying exam. Application process is compulsory and it can be conducted online/offline.
