How to prepare for CLAT 2021 Current Affairs & GK section

The Consortium of NLUs releases the CLAT Syllabus every year. The syllabus for the CLAT exam was announced along with the CLAT Notification 2026. Candidates appearing for CLAT 2026 must prepare for the Current Affairs (including GK) section, which carries 25 per cent weightage as per CLAT Exam Pattern. To obtain higher CLAT 2026 scores, candidates must ensure accuracy for GK and Current Affairs section apart from Legal Reasoning section.

CLAT 2026 Current Affairs including GK: Syllabus & Exam Pattern 

The Current Affairs & General Knowledge section CLAT exam 2026 contains:

  • Around 28-32 questions, which is 25 per cent of the question paper.
  • Passages of about 450 words followed by a series of multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Each question will be of one mark; for an incorrect attempt, 0.25 marks will be deducted

There is no sectional time limit for CLAT exam 2026, therefore, candidates can prepare for Current Affairs, including the GK section, such that theycan  attempt this section as quickly as possible. With an effective preparation strategy for the CLAT GK section, candidates can make it work for real-time events.

As the name suggests, the CLAT Current Affairs and GK section will include questions on both Current Affairs as well as static General Knowledge. The questions will be based on news, journalistic sources, and other non-fiction writings.

For Current Affairs, candidates should keep themselves updated about:

  • Major events happening nationally for at least the last year
  • Major events happening internationally for at least the last year
  • Events in legal domain nationally or internationally of at least one year

For Static GK, candidates should focus on the below important topics and subjects:

  • Art & Culture
  • History
  • Legal domain

Some of the tips that candidates must keep in mind while preparing for the Current Affairs & GK section of the CLAT exam include:

  • Newspapers: The best way to keep yourself ahead with the latest happenings of the world is by reading newspapers daily. However, you should not read just any newspaper but reputed ones such as The Hindu and The Statesman. Also, it is advisable to go through the editorial section of the newspaper as it helps build your vocabulary and also develop analytical skills, which is extremely important for the CLAT exam 2026.
  • Books: Apart from reading the newspapers, it is also important to refer to some best CLAT books for GK such as:

  • Notes: While preparing, you must create short notes for yourself that you can refer to at the time of revision. Making notes is also a good way of retaining facts.
  • CLAT question paper: Candidates need to attempt previous years’ CLAT question papers, including CLAT 2025, CLAT 2024, CLAT 2023 question paper and CLAT 2022 question paper. This will help the candidate understand the types of questions asked, difficulty level, and readiness for the CLAT 2025 exam.
  • Revision: Current Affairs and GK is such a vast area of knowledge that even if you manage to read everything but revise nothing, there is a good chance that you will end up forgetting everything. Therefore, time-to-time revision of what you read is a must in this section.

You don't have to worry. In case you have forgotten your ID and password, which is pretty much normal. You can go and click on the forgot password tab in the registration window. You will receive the mail and then you have to reset your password. Once day you will be able to login.

Yes, the application form for CLAT was released long back in August. Those who have not filled the form yet must understand that there is no right day to fill the form. You should fill is as soon as possible. Because if you miss it you have to wait one more year unnecessarily to appear in the exam.

The last date to submit the application form is October 31, 2025. It must be noted that the consortium will open the application correction window after that. Sometimes the consortium do extend the last date for registration but it is better to fill the form way before and why to wait.
