MAT candidates must know the important dos and don'ts for MAT 2026 exam day to avoid unnecessary problems on the test day. Shiksha brings to you important exam day tips as well as dos and don'ts for the MAT 2026 exam that is held multiple times in four phases.

MAT 2026 will be held in CCTV surveillance, to ensure there are no irregularities at the examination centres. Those who will be appearing for MAT May session, must make sure they follow the guidelines to the T. There are certain actions and items prohibited at the MAT centre. So, ahead of  MAT 2026 exam day, check below some important MAT 2026 exam day guidelines and dos and don’ts that candidates need to follow.

MAT Exam Day Guidelines - Dos

  • Reporting time will be mentioned on the admit card. Reach the MAT exam centre on time to avoid overcrowding.
  • Carry 2 colour print outs of the MAT 2026 admit card, and original copy of a photo ID issued by the Government of India.
  • It is mandatory for all MAT test takers to carry a valid photo identification proof. Check below the list of documents that considered as valid photo id proof for the test day.
    • Passport
    • Voter ID card
    • Aadhaar card
    • PAN card
    • Driving license
    • Employer ID card
    • College ID card
  • At the entry gate, AIMA staff will check MAT admit card and photo ID. Candidates will be frisked for security purpose. They should co-operate with the test centre staff in this process.
  • Items such as bags, mobile phones, watches, books, wallets, electronic gadgets, notebooks, etc. will not be allowed inside the exam centre. So, carry only those items that are mentioned in the MAT admit card 2026.
  • Carry only a blue ballpoint pen as stationary for signing the attendance sheet. For PBT mode, the pen will be required for filling the OMR sheet.
  • Complete the test on time. MAT is of 120 minutes without sectional time limit. So divide time for all 5 sections accordingly in order to not miss out on any section.

  • After security frisking, the invigilator will sign the MAT 2026 admit card of each test taker. No test taker should sign on their admit card before this process.
  • Candidates should not indulge in any kind of malpractice. In case, any candidate is found breaking the code of conduct, they will be strictly penalized.
  • Carrying rough sheet/sheets inside the exam hall is strictly prohibited. Sheets for rough work will be provided inside the test lab.
  • Do not carry electronic items such as phones, watches, bluetooth device, ear phones, pager, ipad, etc.
  • Do not select more than one options to mark answers. Such entries will be deemed invalid.
  • Do not create problems for the staff at the time of identification and frisking. Cooperate with them. You may be barred from the exam for unruly behavior.
  • Do not disturb other candidates or peep into their computer systems/OMR sheet. You will be disqualified for that. 
  • Do not insist on leaving the test lab before time. Invigilator will announce the exit process and candidates are supposed to leave the test hall only after that and as per the sequence.
  • Drop the rough sheet in the box before leaving the test lab.

Q:   What are the items/documents to carry on the MAT exam day?
A: 
On the MAT exam day, PBT and CBT candidates have to visit the examination centre well prepared. Apart from carrying two hard copies of the MAT admit card, they need to also carry a photo ID proof issued by the Government of India. The documents that are included in the list of approve IDs are: 1. Aadhaar Card 2. PAN Card 3. Voter ID Card 4. Passport 5. Driving License 6. University ID Candidates have to carry the original copy of any of these IDs to the exam centre for identification process. IBT mode candidates are also required to present any of these IDs for identification to remote proctored mode. Candidates belonging to PwD category have to carry PwD and scribe certificates too on the exam day. Any candidate suffering from any medical condition which requires them to eat or have medicine during the exam, has to carry a Certificate regarding the same issued by a competent authority. Apart from the documents, candidate are required to carry blue/black ball point pen for signing the attendance sheet and filling the OMR sheet (PBT mode). No other stationary item will be allowed inside the MAT exam centre.
Q:   How will I know about MAT GD/PI schedule?
A: 
The MBA institute will send Group Discussion GD and Personal Interview . PI letter to each candidate who had selected the institute in MAT application form upon their selection based on MAT cut offs. The candidate should keep checking their email ID mentioned in MAT application form. The letters/emails have GD/PI dates, time and venue mentioned on it along with other details related to the GD/PI process. If a candidate wishes to apply at college other than the ones they had selected in the MAT form, then they should visit the website of their desired MBA college and check the application schedule. Once they will fill the application form, they will be informed about the GD/PI schedule via email. Candidates must keep handy the MAT admit card, MAT scorecard, academic certificates, passport size colored photographs, original and requisite fee amount for admission on the day of Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
Q:   In how many cities is MAT exam held?
A: 
Test cities for MAT CBT and MAT PBT are different. So, while selecting an exam mode in the MAT application form, candidates must check the list of cities in which that MAT exam mode is being held or not for that session or exam phase. MAT is overall an easy exam, but if you compare the sections, usually the Quantitative Aptitude is considered tougher than rest of the four sections, due to calculation intensive questions.

All the MAT sections have same weightage, i.e. 30 questions and 30 marks. So candidates must keep in mind to prepare each section properly and poor performance in one section can affect overall score.
