XLRI Interview Questions: XAT qualifiers appearing for the XLRI personal interview may not find the questions repeating from the past interview sessions. However, based on the XLRI interview transcripts of past candidates, the questions asked by the panellists can be categorised across different areas. XLRI interview questions can be based on candidate's profile, current affairs and GK. Several candidates, in their XLRI interview experience, also reported questions framed to build stress and tension.

During the XLRI Personal Interview process, the institute asks questions to test a candidate's technical knowledge, composure, and ethical grounding. Scroll down to know more on XLRI interview questions, including examples of questions that could be asked in the interview round.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is there any negative marking in the XAT exam?
A:

Yes, the XAT exam has negative marking of -0.25 marks for wrong attempt. Unanswered questions have no negative marking but if there are 8 consecutive unanswered questions, 0.10 marks will be deducted.

Thus, the candidates must select questions to solve very carefully in the XAT exam. They should solve only those questions which they know they can solve accurately. The XAT exam has sectional time limit too, so you may not want to waste time on a question that you cannot solve accurately.

You stand to lose both time and marks. So be careful in selecting questions in the XAT exam.  The sectional cut off for XAT is usually 80 percent accuracy. Practice a lot of mock tests to develop this skill.

Q:   How many questions were there in XAT 2025?
A:

As per the latest XAT exam pattern, there will be 95 questions in XAT 2025 in MCQ format.

  • Verbal Ability section of XAT will have 26 questions
  • Decision Making section of XAT will have 21 questions
  • Quantitative Ability section will have 28 questions
  • GK section will have 20 questions

There will be no essay writing this year. It will be conducted during the selection process.

It is not mandatory to solve all the questions. Candidates should solve only those questions which they can solve correctly as there is negative marking in XAT. During the exam preparation, focus on the chapters from which majority of the questions are added. This will help them in achieving the sectional and overall cut offs are required.

Q:   How many XAT mock tests should I practice?
A:

A candidate should practice at least 35 to 40 XAT mock tests during preparation. They should attempt mocks of various varieties and difficulty levels.

In the last two weeks before XAT exam, they must practice at least five mock tests and analyse performance. It is most likely that by the end of exam preparation, candidates will be scoring 98 plus percentile in mocks. If that happens, they will score well in exam too.

Q:   What is the latest change in XAT exam pattern?
A:

As per the latest XAT exam pattern, the question paper has only 2 parts. Part 1 consists of VALR, DM and QA DI questions. Part 2 consists of GK questions. Essay Writing is not a part of the online test. The total time duration is 180 minutes or 3 hours. Part 1 is of 170 minutes and Part 2 is of 10 minutes. Earlier, the XAT exam included essay writing for which extra time was given. The XAT exam used to be of 210 minutes or 3.5 hours.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is the ideal time to start XAT mock test practice?
A:

Ideal time to start XAT mock test practice is after covering the syllabus. When you're thorough with all the concepts and formulae, you will be able to solve all types of questions in the XAT mock test. XAT exam is conducted in January first week, so one should start mock test practice in November and dedicate two months to it.

Q:   When should I start practicing XAT mock tests?
A:

Aspirants should start practicing XAT mock tests after completing the syllabus. Ideal time duration to solve XAT mock tests is October to December. Official mock test is released a week before the exam, so candidates must attempt it at least once before the exam.

Q:   Is it okay to attempt a XAT mock test a day before exam?
A:

It is not suggested to attempt a XAT mock test a day before exam. That time should be devoted in revision of important formulas and concepts, revisiting exam day strategy and relaxing. Attempting a mock test can be mentally tiring and may shake your confidence in case you don't score well. You wouldn't want to go into the exam with a doubtful mind.

Q:   Are there non-MCQs in XAT?
A:

There are no non-MCQs in XAT. All the questions are in MCQ format with four options to choose the correct answer from.  There are neither Type in the Answer and nor subjective answer type questions. Earlier, there used to be essay writing which required candidates to type a short essay on screen.

Work Experience and Entrepreneurship

For experienced candidates, the focus shifts to professional responsibilities, industry trends, and practical problem-solving.

  • Details of pay structures (fixed vs. variable) and ethical dilemmas in sales.
  • Marketing strategies during economic downturns or pandemics.
  • Operational challenges, revenue models, and hiring processes in startups.

Current Affairs and General Knowledge

Questions link current events to business and societal implications.

  • Geopolitics, the digital divide, and criteria for the poverty line.
