The GOI patent recognises their invention for the title 'A system and method for genomic markers and digital pathology image-based prediction of oral malignant disorders'.

JMI

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) scholars Dr. Tanveer Ahmad, an Assistant Professor, and PhD student Nisha Chaudhary, from the Multidisciplinary Centre for Advanced Research & Studies (MCARS) have recently been awarded a patent by the Government of India. Patent number 556810 has been awarded for their invention title 'A system and method for genomic markers and digital pathology image-based prediction of oral malignant disorders'.

Their intriguing methodology, developed in collaboration with other partners, uses artificial intelligence (AI) and digital pathology to improve the identification and forecasting of oral cancer. This new technique can analyze tissue images to figure out whether they are associated with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), oral leukoplakia (OLL), oral lichen planus (OLP), or oral squamous cell cancer. This invention is set to transform oral cancer detection by making it more affordable and accurate.

Using AI technology, OSCC can be evaluated at the level i.e. differentiated, moderately differentiated, or poorly differentiated category of the cancer. The algorithm anticipates the possibility of OSMF or OLP/OLL advancing into OSCC, providing doctors with valuable information about risks. Compared to traditional methods, it gives explicit treatment insights and minimizes diagnostic costs via the use of genetic markers and digital tools.

Together, these developments have significant implications for medical treatment, highlighting the potential for change of AI-driven solutions in digital pathology and oral cancer research, and indicating an important milestone toward improved diagnostic and predictive outcomes.
