The ULSAT 2026 Registration ended Feb 25. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has released a notification regarding the ULSAT application process on the website, upes.ac.in. Just to let you know, the ULSAT 2026 Admission process is completely online. Candidates must note that the ULSAT Exam Date 2026 has not been announced yet.

The ULSAT exam is held for admission to the 5-year LLB and 3-year LLB courses. It must be noted that those who have appeared for the CLAT Exam need not sit for ULSAT 2026 because the university also takes admission to law courses based on CLAT scores.

Please note that the ULSAT exam takes place in multiple phases throughout the year. The ULSAT Exam is the UPES Law School Admission Test. The exam is conducted in an online format. The entrance exam for admission to law courses is conducted by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). The exam is held at the campus in Dehradun. What is ULSAT?

ULSAT stands for the University of Petroleum and Energy Law School Admission Test. This test is being conducted for admission in 3-year LLB, 5-year LLB, and LLM courses offered by the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies. The entrance exam is held in CBT mode. The exam contains MCQ-type questions. The exam pattern for LLM admission differs from the exam pattern for the rest of the Law courses. The candidates who qualify in ULSAT have to attend Group discussions and interviews to finally qualify for admission.

The ULSAT LLB exam is of 2 hours duration. Before filling the application form, the candidate needs to ensure that they meet the ULSAT 2026 eligibility criteria for their respective programme. The ULSAT application form 2026 filling process will include steps like registration, filling out important fields like academic, personal, and contact information, uploading of documents, and payment of the ULSAT 2026 application fees. The qualifying candidates are given admission in the course of their choice to the UPES School of Law (SOL). A total of 520 seats are available for grabs in the UG law courses. And a total of 70 seats are available in the PG law courses.

ULSAT Application Form 2026

UPES ULSAT application form 2026 is now available on the official website of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. While applying, candidates are required to provide their mode of admission out of the following:

  • ULSAT 2026
  • CLAT 2026 scores
  • Applicants must submit their 12th board marks and CLAT scores to join the selection process. The link to upload these details will be available on the UPES website after results of major national-level entrance exams are declared.

  • Each applicant can fill only one application form for any one admission pathway. Still, the university allows students to take admission through either option later.

  • To apply online for the exam, candidates need to register first, pay the application fee, and complete the rest of the form carefully. The fee must be paid online using available payment methods before submitting the application successfully.

ULSAT Eligibility Criteria 2026

There are 3 major admission modes for admission in law courses at UPES, they are:

  1. CLAT Merit
  2. Board exam scores
  3. Via entrance test of UPES - ULSAT

The ULSAT 2026 admission modes depend on the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum 50% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th).
  • For LLM - Minimum 50% marks at Higher and Senior Secondary level (X and XII) and Minimum 50%marks in Graduation with LLB Degree or equivalent.

Criteria 2 – on basis of CLAT/LSAT India scores

For BA LLB (Hons)/ BBA LLB (Hons) / BCom LLB (Hons) - 

  • 50% Marks in Higher & Senior Secondary (10th & 12th)
  • CLAT AIR ranking up to 15000 / L-SAT India Percentile of 60 percentile or above.

For BTech LLB (Hons) -

  • 50% marks in class 10 and 12 PCM.
  • CLAT AIR ranking up to 15000 / LSAT India score of 60 percentile or above.

For LLM - 

  • Minimum 50% marks at Higher and Senior Secondary level (X and XII) and Minimum 50%marks in Graduation with LLB Degree or equivalent.
  • Valid CLAT PG rank

Criteria 3 – on basis of Class 12th merit

For BA LLB (Hons) / BBA LLB (Hons) / BCom LLB (Hons) -

  • 80% marks in 10th and 12th main five subjects (English as one of the compulsory Subjects).

For BTech LLB (Hons) - 

  • 70% marks in 10th, 12th and 12th PCM.

ULSAT Admission Process 2026

UPES Admission Process for 5-year LLB through Non-Exam Pathway

UPES Dehradun also offers admission to the 5-year LLB course through a non-exam pathway, which means candidates do not need to appear in the ULSAT exam. 

Aspirants seeking admissions to the integrated 5-year LLB programme at UPES through a non-exam pathway should meet one of the following criteria: 

  • Candidates must have a CLAT rank up to 15000, or
  • Minimum 50% marks in Class 10 and Class 12, or
  • Board Merit: Minimum 75% in 10th and 12th with five main subjects including English as a compulsory subject.

ULSAT Admit Card 2026

ULSAT 2026 happens in different phases for 5-year LLB, LLB, and LLM courses. Every candidate has to follow the same steps to book the exam slot and get the admit card for each phase of ULSAT 2026. The process is simple and can be done online easily.

The ULSAT is an entrance exam conducted for admissions in UPES Dehradun. The paper syllabus is similar to CLAT but has 150 questions only where equal weightage is given to every section including English, maths, logical reasoning, general knowledge and legal aptitude. The scores are based on the number of correct answers by a candidate out of the maximum marks of 150. The final ranks are also based on the marks obtained by a student. Thus, the better marks the better rank and better prospects of grabbing seats at UPES. Also the cutoff are released once the marks are out and seats are filled. Also, waiting lists are issues which may be given chance in case of any vacancy arising. Apart from this, there is no other method of calculation. Thus higher marks would brighten your prospects in UPES.

Q:   Which books should I refer to get the best results in ULSAT? Which are the most important topics to focus?
A: 
UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test is the entrance exam for Law Degree Courses. The exam is not very different from CLAT. The subjects that are tested in CLAT are also tested here. These subjects are five in number: English including comprehension, General Knowledge, Maths, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. The preparation for the exam should start with going through past year papers to identify what topics are relevant and what areas to focus upon. Now coming to books, for English, you can use any book which covers comprehensively all the topics. Focus should be on comprehension part. For GK, you can use Pearson or Lucent. For current affairs, you can refer to monthly magazines. For Mathematics, you can use Quantitative Aptitude by RS Agarwal. the basic topics like percentages, average, profit and loss are essential. For Legal, there is no specific book but going through past year papers of ULSAT and other exams would help. For Logical, you can again use books by RS Aggarwal.
Q:   How can I prepare for my ULSAT exam? Share some tips.

ULSAT Preparation Tips: The candidates have to find out all the details about the officially prescribed syllabus for the examination. First of all prepare a time-table and then divide the time equally for all the subjects. Do not exclude any topic from the syllabus and always include every single topic of the syllabus in your preparations. Take the help from the best books. The study materials will be available in the internet or the market. Always Practice previous years question papers.
