Over 90% of voters in two online polls back the demand for a single-shift NEET PG exam, citing fairness and equal opportunity.

In a strong signal to the authorities and the judiciary, two independent polls conducted among NEET PG 2025 aspirants have revealed overwhelming support for holding the NEET PG 2025 exam in a single shift. A combined total of 1,287 respondents participated in the polls, with the vast majority expressing that a single-day, single-shift exam is necessary to ensure fairness and equality among candidates.

The first poll, which garnered 1,103 votes, showed that 88% of participants believe the Supreme Court should accept the petition for a single shift NEET PG, emphasizing fairness as the key reason. Only 5% supported multi-shift exams, and 7% opted to leave the decision to the Court.

A second poll with 184 votes echoed similar sentiments, with 91% of participants (168 votes) asserting that a single shift ensures equal opportunity. Just 7 voters supported multi-shift exams with proper normalization, while 9 respondents chose to defer the matter to the Supreme Court.

These poll results come amid increasing demands from aspirants and experts for the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to address disparities created by multi-shift testing. While NBE has traditionally conducted NEET PG in a single shift, recent proposals to adopt a multi-shift format — similar to NEET UG and other competitive exams — have faced backlash due to concerns over normalization inaccuracies.

“Normalization doesn’t fully eliminate disparities in difficulty levels across shifts. A single shift is the only way to ensure every candidate faces the same paper under the same conditions,” said a NEET PG aspirant from Delhi who voted in the poll.

Legal Route Underway?

In 2024, several students approached the Supreme Court seeking directives for fair and transparent conduct of competitive exams, especially after controversies surrounding NEET UG. The recent online polls show growing grassroots momentum, possibly bolstering the case for petitioners seeking single-shift NEET PG 2025 through legal avenues.

If the petition is accepted by the Supreme Court, the decision could set a precedent for all future high-stakes medical entrance exams.
