Commonly asked questions
On Highlights
Q:   How hard is it to get admission in Delhi University for an average student?
A:

The admission process for Delhi University (DU) is extremely competitive, especially for the well known and popular courses and colleges. However, the difficulty level of admission varies depending on the programme a student wishes to get into. Some of the key parameters that define how difficult can be for a student to get into a good DU college with good course:

  • Scores in CUET/ Class 12
  • Category
  • Selection of College + Course combination in the CSAS registration process

Up until 2021, only top scorers of Class 12 were able to get into Hindu, Hansraj, Miranada, SRCC, LSR and other reputed colleges for top courses such as BA (Hons) in Economics/ English/ Political Science, BSc (Hons) Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics and BCom (Hons) courses. However, the introduction of CUET has changed the game. Now, even if a student could not do well in Class 12 has a chance of getting into the cream colleges with a good score in CUET.

However, if the dream is just to study in a reputed DU college, there is a basic hack that can be followed by anyone and everyone. All the top colleges of DU offer short-duration certificate courses in Languages and other interest areas. Those who are not able to get into DU can witness the buzz of being a DU student by pursuing these courses. For details on the same, students are advised to visit the official website of the DU affiliated colleges.

Q:   Can I take admission in DU MBA without CAT?
A:

No, aspirants wishing to apply for any of the MBA colleges under DU must pass CAT. DU colleges offering MBA provide maximum weightage to the CAT percentile. Check below the CAT weighate for admission at DU:

DU CollegesCAT Percentile Weightage

DSE80%

Apart from CAT, the performance of the candidates in Class 10, Class 12, graduation will also be considered for MBA admission.

Q:   Does Delhi University provide placements to MSc students?

On Admissions
Q:   How should I prepare myself to get into Shaheed Bhagat Singh College University of Delhi for B.Com?
A:

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College admissions 2024 will be based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores conducted by National Test Agency (NTA) for all UG and PG programs. Q:   Can I get admission at DU in a BSc course without CUET?
A:

No, Delhi University offers admission to the BSc programmes at its colleges based on CUET score only. There is no provision for direct admissions. Hence, aspirants must take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The national-level exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). It is conducted in different phases. Eligible students can apply on NTA website to take the test. Students seeking admission to DU colleges should select DU college plus preferred course at the time of registration.

After CUET result declaration, aspirants are required to register on DU CSAS portal. The course and college allotment process is done based on the preferences submitted by the students during the form filling. After final selections, students can pay the admission fee to confirm admission.

A glimpse of Shyam Lal College.
Placements: Every year, our college conducts a placement drive for students, and many companies come there to select the students. That drive held for 3-4 days, and many students got the placement mostly from the commerce department. Students also got internships in many companies and a good stipend too.
Infrastructure: Our college campus is very big. We have two big buildings, an open auditorium, many gardens, a big sports ground, labs, Wi-Fi availability, and many more. College doesn't have a hostel that's a drawback. College provides medical facilities. Canteen is also there, and the prices are very reasonable. Sports facilities are also there.
Faculty: Teachers help a lot with solving questions, provide help in practical, and are very supportive of the students. Semester exams are of moderate level, not too tough. Previous year questions help you a lot. Around 80% of students pass the exam and score a good CGPA.

A very decent college. If you're taking admission in this college, don't have high hopes with it.
Placements: The placement faculty is bad, as what I have heard until now. You might get placement, but the package will be very low. The highest package that you might grab from here might be less than the average package of some colleges. Well, to be honest, placement totally depends on the student's capability.
Infrastructure: Classrooms aren't that big, in fact, the university isn't this big, and also they don't provide hostels. You need to find your accommodation yourself, but the best part of the college is their library. There are tons of books in the library. Classes don't have AC, but the library does have it.
Faculty: Teachers are average. Some of them are very friendly with the students, while the rest of them don't seem to care much. Some of the teachers are very supportive. Well, there is no doubt all of them are very qualified. But the teaching style of each teacher is very different.
Other: From what I have heard, there are definitely more colleges in DU with lower fees. About the crowd, I don't like the crowd of this college, apart from the people who are involved in societies.

Totally dissatisfied because of placement, faculty members were not that much corporate.
Placements: In my batch, there were a total of around 130 students, and none of them were placed in any company. The college was providing internship details, and if you want to do one, you can go through the procedure. But there were no on-campus placements. Most of the students opted for further studies like MCA or M.Sc. in Computer Science.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is average compared to other Delhi University colleges. It has a very small campus. Only in the canteen, you can get a Wi-Fi facility. Classrooms are average with no air conditioning. There were no hostel facilities. You have to seek a flat or PG.
Faculty: Teachers mainly focused on the theory part rather than the practical. Teaching was not that much sufficient for industry readiness. The semester exams were not that difficult. Most of the questions were from the class notes. A student who takes her class on a daily basis can secure a high CGPA.
Other: I have a keen interest in coding and want to explore this field. If the college focuses on the practical part, they would do really well. Annually, fests are held by the college for four days. The campus crowd is not that much.

College is good because it is under the University of Delhi.
Placements: In my college, there is no hostel facility, and placements are good. The best maximum package is 12 LPA, and the minimum is 4 LPA. The top recruitment company in college is Infosys, and many others. Mainly, students do internships outside the campus, only a few students do internships in college.
Infrastructure: All classroom has a personal Wi-Fi and a good air intake. Labs are very good, all equipment and machines are in full working condition. Our college does not provide a hostel facility for students, but the canteen is neither bad nor good, it is very good in price, and decent.
Faculty: Semesters are not very difficult, the passing percentage is 5 CGPA. College makes students ready to work in the industry, but only talented students can go for placement. Teachers are well-qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is good. Everyone is of a very humble nature.
Other: Fest and events are mind-blowing, and our college also conducts NCC.

It is the best college. You definitely have to go to this college.
Placements: My batch was 2022 batch, the new and the first batch of NEP. As my course is not a professional one, but under this course we can get many different opportunities in the field of political science to make our career in the field of political science.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure of the college are good. As my course is not a practical-based course, it is a theoretical so we don't need any labs for that but instead of this, another college provides one of the biggest libraries to you. So many collections of books are there which help us in our studies.
Faculty: My college comes in under 5 of all in over DU which provides the best education in the field of political science. Professors at my college are good. They help the students not only in their studies but also in other studies like government jobs, UPSC, and SSC.
Other: Campus life in college is amazing. It has very nice environment. College is very good. The crowd on campus is high. Our college also provides scholarships to those students who are economically backward. All over my college is the best, and I surely prefer this college for my graduation in DU.

Absolutely not so satisfied with faculty. Placement is near to zero.
Placements: There is very little possibility that you will get any good placement, but yes, you can do an internship, but it all depends on how good you are. This college does not give that much support in placement. No good brand value company comes. And you cannot only rely on the college to get a good package just by getting some good value degrees.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is small but very well maintained in the outer area. Labs are okay, classrooms are not well cleaned, and canteen food taste is okay. The library is very old. You can never find any new book, and mobile data does not work there. They support NCC.
Faculty: The faculty is okay, but not so good at teaching! Teachers are supportive and helpful, yet teachers' first work is to teach their subject very well, in which many teachers do not stand. The attendance rule is very strict; you need to have 60% above and 85% above to get full marks internally.
Other: Small events take place sometimes, but to explore more with other colleges and students, the students have to do it all by themselves. There are a lot of quotas and scholarships for ST/SC and OBC. The general again has to suffer, and the crowd is below average, not so supportive, and there is no healthy environment.
