The deemed-to-be university accepts GATE score for M.Tech admission. However, aspirants who have not qualified GATE can also get admission to M.Tech course by qualifying SRMJEEE (PG) conducted by the university. SRM will conduct SRMJEEE in two phases. As per the eligibility criteria, aspirants must pass bachelor's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for the M.Tech course. The university considers the eligibility and GATE score for providing admission.

MTech is a two-year course divided into four semesters. SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers M.Tech in full-time mode in 61 specialisations and part-time in seven specialisations. M.Tech (full-time) specialisations are Automation and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Cloud Computing, Computer Aided Design, Construction Engineering and Management, Electronics and Control Engineering, Embedded System Technology, Environmental Engineering, etc. Candidates who have completed graduation in relevant subjects can apply for any of the M.Tech specialisations.

The total tuition fees for SRM IST M.Tech is INR 3.20 Lacs - INR 17.50 lakh. The fee also includes the integrated MBA fees. Candidates need to pay the course fee after completion of all the selection rounds.

The university fee structure is cumulative of several components, such as caution deposit, tuition fee, hostel fee, and more. A few of these components are one-time payable, while some have are charged annually/semesterly. SRM IST Chennai MBA tuition fee ranges between INR 1.9 Lacs and INR 11.5 lakh. Moreover, the one-time fee range between INR 1,200 and INR 11,000 and the hostel charges range between INR 1.45 Lacs and INR 3.3 lakh.

As per the latest statistics, 9740 job offers were rolled to the 2025 batch students. Earlier, the number of offers made during SRMIST placements 2024 was over 6291. The number of high paing offers in 2025 was 4227 and in 2024 it was above 3295.
