Is VIT really good for placements or not? The dark reality of VIT!
Placements: I hear that placements at VIT have been good. This year (2024), two students from CSE Information Security secured 1 crore packages at MotorQ. In CSE, the average package is 9 LPA, depending on your CGPA, with a placement percentage of around 92%, though it's definitely above 90%. Top recruiting companies include Qualcomm, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good. Classes for my course are held in the Technology Tower, which is a well-maintained block at VIT. Wi-Fi is provided for students with speeds up to 5MB/s. The labs are well-equipped, and there are many of them for my course. The campus has 23 hostels, some better than others, and each hostel has a different caterer for the mess, though the menu remains the same. You can change your caterer every month and your hostel every year based on your CGPA. There is a hospital on campus with many facilities, and there are numerous sports opportunities, both paid and unpaid, with various clubs available.
Faculty: VIT uses a Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS), which allows you to select your own subjects, teachers, and create your timetable from the second year. Some teachers are good, while others are not. The curriculum requires 163 credits over 4 years to get a degree. Simply passing exams earns you credits, but for better hostel placements and job prospects, you need to study hard. Exams are tough. The pass percentage depends on the difficulty of the question papers. You can migrate between courses based on your first-year's CGPA. For example, you need to score 9.3 CGPA to migrate from other courses to CSE.
Other: I chose VLSI designing due to my interest, because semiconductor industry is expanding rapidly. VIT's campus is crowded. Around 40,000 students in Vellore, leading to high competition. The best part of my course is chip designing. Improvements could include offering NPTEL exams. VIT hosts many events, with Revira being the largest festival.

I am very satisfied with the college.
Placements: As I am studying in 1st year, I haven’t talked much with our super seniors, but I asked once. They told me that placements in our college last year were terrible compared to other years. The highest package is 32 LPA, the lowest is 7 LPA, and the average is 10 LPA. The top recruiters of our college are TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Cognizant, and Axiom OI. I have no idea. Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, Data Scientist, and AI Engineer are the roles offered in our course.
Infrastructure: We have no Wi-Fi. In addition, we have jammers to block the network. Labs are well-designed and properly maintained. The classrooms are really good, with projectors, clean boards, and nice airflow through the windows. They are very comfortable. The library is also good, with more books than any college except Githam.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful to us. They have nice qualifications. They are very friendly when teaching us and also help us very well in lab practicals. Our course curriculum is fully relevant and helps keep students industry-ready. It is tough, but you can pass if you study well. Ask about the pass percentage.
Other: I chose this course out of pure passion for being a chip designer. The best thing about our course is the course itself. If the first-year faculty help us in labs, it would be a great help to improve. Events are indeed well maintained. I love the annual day.
