Aakash Chaudhry, Director of AESL shares some useful tips and preparation strategies for NEET UG 2022 that students should adopt in the days left for the exam!
The introduction of NEET in 2013 has scraped all the state-level medical entrance tests and the All-India PMT examination. The debate over the states participating was a hot topic in all the newspapers. In actuality, most of the states have agreed to participate in this common entrance exam from 2013 onwards. At that time, a total of 271 MBBS colleges have been listed by MCI, which will fall under the aegis of NEET 2013. At that time, these colleges offered a total of 31,000 MBBS seats across India. The NEET syllabus was decided after reviewing various state board syllabi and that prepared by the CBSE, COBSE and NCERT, considering the significance of various fields covered within medical education.
No doubt, with this notification, students will have to revamp their approach to their exam preparation, as, along with the concept, a new syllabus has also come into the picture. This, however, can easily be followed with a strategic approach and proper planning for the exam. And it’s not just about the aspirants; every organisation in the education sector will have to gear up for NEET.
Explore colleges based on NEET
NEET has replaced the following medical entrance exams:
- All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT – the national level medical entrance test for MBBS courses), which till 2012 will be used for admissions into 15% seats of all government medical colleges except that of in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
- All individual MBBS entrance exams, which are being organized individually by state or colleges themselves (e.g. AFMC, OJEE, EAMCET, Delhi-PMT, UP-CPMT, UT-PMT, R-PMT, HR-PMT, WB-JEE, JK-CET etc.)
- From 2020 onwards, AIIMS and JIPMER scrapped their own entrance exams and started conducting their admission through NEET scores.
Preparing for NEET- Strategy and Awareness is all you require
First of all, you should be completely aware of the changed pattern to implement a proper strategy for NEET 2022. So, let us have a look at the revised pattern before we go ahead with the formula to crack the NEET 2022 strategy.
The NEET scorecard or the NEET result is declared in an online mode. The NEET scorecard is released online in PDF format. Candidates will have to obtain the NEET scorecard by following the steps given below:

2. Click on the link indicating NEET scorecard download
3. Enter the NEET application number and date of birth or password
4. Enter the security pin
5. Download the NEET scorecard PDF document
6. Take multiple printouts
Candidates must preserve the hard and soft copy of the NEET scorecard till the admission or counselling process is concluded.
The format for NEET exam is a total of 180 question with total 720 marks. Four marks will be awarded for a right answer and one mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. The questions will be objective type that is MCQ based. 90 questions will be from Biology including Zoology and Botany both, and 45 questions each from Physics and 45 Chemistry. Each subject will be divided into two sections. The syllabus will be that of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE syllabus.
The exam pattern of NEET was changed by NTA last year. The total number of questions was increased from 180 to 200. However, the number of questions to be attempted was 180. Each subject or section was divided into two sections, Section A and Section B. While the former carried 35 questions, the latter carried 15 questions. In Section B, candidates had to answer 10 questions out of 15 questions. The duration of the exam was three hours. Each question carried four answer options and test-takers had to mark the correct answer option on the OMR sheet.
Now, let’s get the NEET strategy set to ensure your long-cherished dreams to become a doctor do not go unfulfilled. So here are a few strategy for NEET 2022 to help you out towards better preparation:
- A thorough reading of NCERT books is a must. The content of NCERT books should be read completely and the figures given should be understood minutely. Students must solve the exercises given in the NCERT.
- NEET question paper will have 200 questions, out of which 180 questions have to be solved within three hours duration. Accordingly, time management practice should be done by writing NEET mock tests. A student would be required to solve each question in a minute’s time, so regular practice of at least 15-20 full-length tests before taking the actual exam would prove to be most beneficial.
- There are some differences in the CBSE syllabus for classes 11 and 12 compared to NEET. A close comparison of syllabi must be done.
- Going through the previous year's exam papers will help as NEET 2022 is expected to be at the same level.
Also, the right dose of mental guidance is of utmost importance for students. A positive attitude and a calm disposition will definitely help develop a stress-free study environment. Panicking is never a solution; it just hampers the aspirant’s overall performance. So, students should let go of worries and instead adopt a practical stance and react wisely to the amendments not just today, but also in the future.
There will be bonus marking or extra marks awarded to NEET candidates only if there is a discrepancy in the NEET answer key. Clarifying the same, NTA has stated:
1. If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
2. If all options are found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
3. If none of the options is found correct or a Question is found to be wrong or a Question is dropped then all candidates who have appeared will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.
Yes, the NEET 2025 exam pattern has been changed. NTA announced the change in the exam pattern on January 25, 2025, to enable candidates prepare accordingly. The optional questions have been removed. Instead of 200 questions, there will now be 180 questions. The total duration of NEET 2025 has been reduced from 200 minutes to 180 minutes or three hours now. Announcing the same, NTA has stated, “Aspirants are hereby informed that the question paper pattern and examination duration will revert to the pre-COVID format. where there will not be any Section B anymore. Hence, there will be a total of 180 compulsory questions (45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry and 90 in Biology) which will be attempted by the candidates in 180 minutes thereby removing any optional questions and extra time introduced due to COVID.”
The NEET analysis is prepared based on the student reactions and reviews by experts. While the student reactions may vary from one to another as each student has a different perspective, the expert review is a more credible source of NEET analysis.
The difficulty level of NEET may vary for candidates, based on their preparation level. Based on the expertise and experience, the NEET analysis by experts will provide a more in-depth overview of the exam for each subject, topics, syllabus coverage and weightage. Expert analysis for NEET will also act as a basis of preparation for aspirants planning to appear for the exam next year.
However, student reactions give a first-hand impression of the exam which cannot be ruled out. It gives a glance to the NEET question paper and the personal feedback of candidates. NEET analysis by student reactions help evaluate the overall performance of candidates and the expected cutoff.
The need of the hour to make this change a successful one is a right attitude and adequate preparation to be able to turn the feeling of apprehension and insecurity into a pleasant sense of achievement. As the popular saying goes, where there is a will there is a way.
