NIFT 2025 Situation Test will be conducted tentatively in May 2026, while the Personal Interview will be conducted around the last week of May 2026. Candidates will be shortlisted for Situation Test and PI based on their performance in the written exam. Candidates will have to book slots for the Situation Test/Personal Interview.

If shortlisted, B.Des applicants need to appear in a Situation Test, while M.Des candidates need to take a personal interview. The Situation Test carries 20% weightage, whereas the Personal Interview carries 30% weightage. One of the most effective tools to prepare for the Situation Test/ PI is to solve previous years' question papers.

NIFT Situation Test 2026 - The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the NIFT Situation Test on April 26, 2026. The test will be conducted in offline mode for shortlisted candidates who have participated in the choice-filling process. The Situation Test will be held at 28 centres in 20 cities. 

In the case of MDes, MFM, and MFTech programs, shortlisted candidates had to appear in a NIFT Personal Interview. It was conducted from April 06, 2026 to April 11, 2026. The shortlisted candidates are required to participate in the NIFT campus selection and slot booking process for the Situation Test/ Personal Interviews.

Key Pointers about NIFT 2026 Situation Test

  • Hands-on Test - The situation test is a hands-on test that will evaluate the candidate’s material handling skills and ability to come up with innovative ideas in a given situation with a given set of materials.
  • Material: NIFT provides all necessary materials such as paper, glue, tape, and other crafting supplies. Candidates cannot bring their own materials.
  • No additional material will be provided/ allowed. Candidates must use only the materials provided by NIFT during the test
  • Model building - The candidate has to build a model with the given material, showcasing an innovative and creative bent of mind. The candidate must also have a good understanding of space visualization, color scheme, construction, and how to mix and match various components. All these parameters will be checked with the write-up explaining the concept behind the model constructed. 
  • The medium of instruction in NIFT 2026 will be English, so the write-up will be in English. If the NIFT write-up is in any other language, no marks will be allocated.
  • Disqualification rule - Candidates trying to reveal their identity in any way, like by writing any personal details or putting identification marks on the model/ design/ writeup, will be disqualified.
  • On-the-spot evaluation - The jury will evaluate the test on the spot. Also, the model will not be preserved for future reference.
  • Missing the Situation Test automatically disqualifies a candidate from the final merit list.

Key Pointers about NIFT 2026 Personal Interview

Shortlisted candidates have to appear in a Case-study based Personal Interview (PI). 

NIFT 2026 Group Discussion - Time duration, parameters, assessment

The GD would be of 15 to 20 minutes and include a discussion on an assigned case study. A panel of experts will then assess the candidates on various parameters, including:

Q:   Is there any dress code to appear for NIFT Situation Test?
A: 

There is no dress code for the NTA NIFT Situation Test. But it is advisable to dress up neatly and smartly. Students should avoid chunky jewellery and flashy logos for the exam.

Q:   Will there be an option to edit the NIFT application form?
A: 

Candidates were given the option to edit the NIFT 2026 application form for a limited time period.

Using NIFT application edit option, candidate will be able to edit or correct some of the information in registration form. Some of the details the candidate can edit include name, date of birth, category, state domicile, etc. However, the candidate is not allowed to edit the exam city. The schedule for the application correction will be notified by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) at its admission portal - niftadmissions.in.

Q:   How many test centres are there for NIFT 2026 situation test?
A: 

NIFT Situation Test will be conducted in an offline mode at the various NIFT campuses. Considering there are 19 NIFTs, the candidate will be able to select any of these institutes to appear in the Situation Test. The window to select test centres for the Situation Test will be announced soon after the declaration of NIFT results for the written exam. Test centres for the Situation Test will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. So, candidates need to book their slots as soon as possible. Note that if seats in a particular centre (or institute) fill out, the candidate will not be able to be offered slots for that institute.

Q:   What are various items that candidates need to carry with them to the NIFT exam centre?
A: 

On the day of the NIFT exam, candidates must bring the following items with them NIFT 2026 admit card, a valid photo id proof, HB Pencil, eraser, sharpener, and dry colours.

Items that are not allowed inside the exam venue are water bottle, papers, notes, Books, calculator, electronic gadgets, mobile phone, bag, handbagand correction marker/ white fluid.

Q:   When and where will officials verify original documents for NIFT 2026 admission?
A: 

The information provided by the candidate when filling out the NIFT 2026 application form will be verified by NIFT officials before any candidate is considered for admission.

The verification of original documents will be conducted at the campus when the candidate reports for the alloted regular programme. When reporting for verification, along with the original documents, the candidate must also bring with them self-attested photocopies. 

Also, if the certificates are in any other language than Hindi/ English, then a certified translation in Hindi/ English produced duly verified by the issuing institution/ gazetted officer. If the candidate fails to produce the translation, the candidate may be denied admission.

Q:   When do I need to start my preparation for NIFT 2026 exam?

The NIFT exam is among the competitive and is also considered among the toughest. So, it is recommended that the candidate starts their exam preparation early. NIFT exam has various components like written exam and Situation Test /Personal Interview. Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam. Now unless the candidate is already well-versed, the exam will be very difficult. So, start early. The same goes for the GAT.

Eligibility criteria for participation in NIFT 2026 Situation Test (B.Des)

The Situation Test is conducted for B.Des candidates who have been shortlisted based on CAT and GAT scores. 

  1. Appearing for both the NIFT CAT and GAT written tests is mandatory to get shortlisted.
  2. Only shortlisted candidates are eligible for participation in the Situation Test 

NIFT 2026 Situation Test Exam Pattern

The Situation Test will be of two hours duration and conducted in offline mode. It is a practical exam, during which candidates will be provided with a set of material, using which they have to make 3D models and answer questions asked in the question paper. In addition to making the model, the candidate will also have to textually explain the model they have created.

Candidates seeking admission to the MFT and MFM have to first appear in a written test (GAT). M.Des candidates need to appear in both CAT and GAT written tests.

Q. When will the NIFT 2025 situation test be conducted?

A. The Situation Test is conducted in April 2025. The test will be conducted at various NIFT campuses.

Q. Who is eligible to participate in the NIFT 2025 Situation Test?

A. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on CAT and GAT scores are eligible to participate in the SItuation Test.

Q. When will the choice filling be conducted for the NIFT 2025 Situation Test?

A. The choice filling process for the SItuation Test (B.Des) is conducted a few days before the exam.

Q. When will the admit card be released for the NIFT 2025 situation test?

A. The admit cards for the Situation Test for B.Des program will be available in April 2025.

Q. When will the group discussion/ personal interview be conducted for the MFT, M.Des, and MFM programs?

A. The personal interview will conducted from March to April 2025 (tentative). The candidate needs to refer to the program-wise shedule for the PI. The document uploading process for shortlisted candidates will also be conducted.

Q. Who is eligible for participation in the NIFT 2025 PI?

A. For the M.Des course, candidates need to get shortlisted based on GAT and CAT scores, while for MFM and MFT courses, candidates need to get shortlisted based on GAT scores for participation in the group discussion/ personal interview.
