The GAT written exam for the NIFT 2023 exam was conducted on February 2023 (9.30 am - 11.30 am). The exam was administered in an online, computer-based mode. Check the detailed exam analysis of the paper here. The CAT paper for the B.Des and M.Des program will be conducted on the same day, from 1.30 - 4.30 pm.

The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs and was conducted from 9.30 am - 11.30 am. The Student Reactions are now OUT. The verdict so far is that the paper was very difficult. Some students say, much more difficult than even NID DAT and UCEED. Chech here expected cut-off, section and overall difficulty, paper length, and much more.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducted the NIFT 2024 entrance exam on February 5, 2023. The entrance exam includes the GAT and the CAT written tests. The GAT is common for all the programs - B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses. The GAT is an objective-type paper and is being held in computer-based mode. NIFT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology for admission to the various UG and PG design courses offered by the 18 participating colleges.

Admission will be solely on the basis of NIFT merit rank.

Q:   What is the purpose of the NIFT 2026 exam analysis?
A: 

The exam analysis for NIFT 2026 written exam will be available soon after completion of CAT and GAT written exams. It will consist difficulty level, types of questions asked, marking scheme, and expected cut off. Also, the analysis will highlight any technical issues during NIFT. With analysis, candidates will be able to assess their performance and check what went right and what went wrong. Future aspirants also can go through the NIFT exam analysis to learn about the exam.

Q:   What is the exam pattern for the NIFT CAT paper?
A: 

Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des course also need to take the Creative Ability Test CAT written exam, in addition to the GAT. The CAT exam will be conducted in an offline, pen-pencil mode. CAT will be a drawing-based exam of 3 hours duration. The CAT will evaluate various skills of the candidate including Intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability. Further, it will examine the creative as well as innovative use of color and illustration skills of aspirants. It is mandatory for B. Des and M.Des candidates to appear in the CAT paper, or else they will not be invited for the Situation Test.

Q:   What is the NIFT 2024 exam pattern for the GAT paper (M. F. M)?
A: 

As per the official exam pattern released by NIFT, the question paper for GAT M.FTech will be of 180 minutes. The exam will be conducted in a LAN-based, CBT mode. The GAT paper will have 150 multiple-choice questions. These questions will be asked from - Communication Ability and Comprehension, Case Study, Quantitative Ability, Analytical & Logical Ability, and GK and Current Affairs. Also, the GAT paper will be bilingual, meaning the candidate can appear in the GAT paper either in English or Hindi language. The choice of language has to be made when filling out the NIFT 2024 online application form.

Very few questions from the GK section: Shreya, who appeared for the B.Des program says that only 4-5 questions were asked from the GK section. 

Another candidate said the paper was very difficult!

The paper was very difficult: A majority of the questions were passage-based.

Difficult than even NID DAT and UCEED 2023 - Shreya claimed that the NID DAT 2023 paper was much easier compared to the NIFT 2023 question paper.

Many students also were saying the paper was harder than even UCEED 2023!

  • Candidates will have the option to take the exam either in English or Hindi.
  •  The question type will be multiple-choice.
  • The question paper will have a total of 150 questions.
  • Questions will be asked from the following FIVE sections - Communication Ability and Comprehension, Case Study, Quantitative Ability, Analytical & Logical Ability, and GK and Current Affairs. The mode of NIFT exam for the GAT paper will be a computer-based test (or CBT).
Q:   What is the NIFT 2024 exam pattern for the Artisan category?
A: 

Admission to the design courses at NIFTs is based on performance of the candidate in the Studio Test, Interview round, and verification of documents/ eligibility criteria. The Studio Test carries a weightage of 40%, while the Interview carries 20% weightage. During the Studio Test, the candidate will be asked to make a 3D-model. The material to make the model will be provided to the candidate inside the exam hall; note that no other material is allowed. Candidates who get shortlisted for admission need to get their documents verified and also meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Release of NIFT 2023 answer keys

The answer keys for the NIFT 2023 exam will be available in the 2nd week of February 2023. Note that answer keys will only be released for the GAT; there will be no answer keys for the subjective-based CAT exam.

Using the answer keys, the candidate will be able to calculate probable scores and their chances of admission.

Q:   What is NIFT lateral entry admission (NLEA) scheme?
A: 

NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) provides an opportunity to candidates who have completed their Diploma in relevant or related fields of Design & Technology for direct admission to the third semester of UG programmes of NIFT. 

Eligible candidates have to appear in the NIFT 2026 entrance exam to get lateral admission. Admission under lateral entry scheme will be strictly on merit of NIFT 2026 exam, which will include written examination, studio test/ technology aptitude test, and a personal interview. 

Candidates selected through lateral entry will join the regular UG students of NIFT in their second year. 

The seat intake under this scheme will be displayed on the website prior to seat allocation.

There is no fixed number of mock tests one should take before the NIFT Entrance Exam. A candidate should take at least one mock test daily for the NIFT Entrance Preparation. 10-15 mock tests will really help in preparing for the exam.
