Tips for IIT 2021 Preparation

Keep the foundation strong

For any examination, it is important to keep the basic foundation strong. Students should make sure to finish studying the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics topics first, before proceeding further in the preparation process. Vendang Asgoankar, JEE Advanced 2020 (AIR 7), made it sure to clear the basic topics of PCM. According to Vendang, ‘I first made sure to be clear with basics in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and followed NCERT thoroughly. I practised and revised the previous question papers of JEE Advanced on a daily basis’.

Give more focus on weak areas

Vedang also emphasizes on focusing on a student’s weak areas first. He has mentioned that he gave more attention to Mathematics since it was his weakness, however, by the end of the preparation, Maths had become Vedang’s strongest subject. Students should make sure to figure out their weak subjects and topics and allot more time towards it during their preparation. By practising their weak topics, the students will make sure that they are well prepared for it during the examination.

Study schedules should be well made

Since JEE Main and JEE Advanced are held within a close timeframe along with board exams, students have to devote their time strategically so that they secure good marks in all of the examinations.  This strategy was adopted by Landa Jitendra (JEE Advanced AIR 14) and he was able to get good results in all of the examinations. According to Landa, ‘I used to study 12 to 13 hours daily. During the study time in a day, I have allocated time for my class 12 board, JEE Main and JEE Advanced preparation. Due to this, I was able to prepare for all the three exams well’.

Mock tests are an essential part of the preparation

While preparing for the examination, it is important for the students to understand their progress. Mock tests are a great way to know the current standing of a student in terms of preparation. By regularly completing mock tests, students will be able to analyse their weak points and also understand the parts where they need to work harder.

JEE Advanced 2017 AIR 3, Ananye Agarwal also agrees about the important role that mock tests have in a student’s life. According to Ananye, ‘Yes. Mock tests, sample papers and previous year question papers are the most important parts of one’s preparation.  This is because at the end of the day, you have to solve a three-hour paper and these things help you a lot in practicing’.

Choose the right materials

Experts suggest that choosing the right books for preparation is very essential. While NCERT books are considered the best resource for JEE Main and JEE Advanced preparation, experts also advise students to refer to more books. Since JEE Advanced examination needs more detailed study, referring to different books will make the student more knowledgeable and prepared for the examination.

In addition to all of the tips presented in the article, the student’s motivation and determination is a driving factor for success in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations. While studies are important, students should not forget to take care of their health and keep some time off for recreation.

You will not be eligible for admission as preparatory ranks are not considered under round 1. Since you have already qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), all you need to do is meet the second criterion and apply for round 2, which will be only conducted if seats from round 1 remain vacant.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.
