UGEE 2026 Pattern & Syllabus
As per the exam pattern of the UGEE, the entrance test will be held in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and will last for 180 minutes (3 hours). The test will be divided into two sections - SUPR & REAP.
| Section |
Name |
Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Section 1 |
SUPR (Subject Proficiency Test) |
60 mins |
| Section 2 |
REAP (Research Aptitude Test) |
120 mins |
Both the sections in the UGEE will feature Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). There is a 25% negative marking for incorrect answers. SUPR is a qualifying round. While students must pass the SUPR cutoff for their REAP paper to be evaluated, the final shortlisting for interview will depend on REAP score.
This exam will be for three hours and has two sections:
a) SUPR – Subject Proficiency test for 60 minutes.
b) REAP – Research Aptitude test for 120 minutes.
UGEE Preparation Tips
- The difficulty level of the SUPR section is slightly easier than JEE Main and to prepare for this section, candidates must focus on NCERT fundamentals for PCM.
- For the REAP section they must practice logical reasoning, puzzles. They must use mock tests or analytical reasoning books to get comfortable with the unique question style.
- Solve previous year IIITH UGEE papers to understand the variability in question weightage and patterns.
Commonly asked questions
Candidates can check IIITH UGEE exam pattern from its official website as well as by clicking here - IIITH UGEE Exam Pattern.
As per IIITH UGEE pattern 2026, the exam paper will consist of two sections Subject Proficiency Test (SUPR) and Research Aptitude Test (REAP).
As per the SUPR section, the test will be of 60-minute duration and consist of objective questions based on 11th and 12th-grade Physics, Chemistry, and Maths syllabus, similar to the JEE Main level.
Commonly asked questions
Yes, there is negative marking for incorrect answers in both sections. It is crucial to be sure of your answer before marking it to avoid losing points.
As per the exam pattern of IIITH UGEE, the REAP is a 120-minute test that evaluates critical thinking and problem-solving. It uses PCM concepts but applies them to real-world scenarios and logical puzzles.
In IIITH UGEE 2025, there will be no negative marking in the first section. However, the second section had negative markings. The first section is the Subject Proficiency test and the second section is the Research Aptitude test. Negative marking is given only for section B which is for REAP (Research Aptitude Test) section which is -0.5 marks for each incorrect answer.

No, despite being a "Research Aptitude" test, the computer-based format only supports objective types (MCQs) and numerical entries. There are no descriptive based questions in the IIITH UGEE exam.

The SUPR section is comparable to JEE Main, but REAP section is considered challenging as it requires creative thinking and "out-of-box" problem solving. It can be compared to the Olympiad level questions.

Yes, in REAP section there can be questions on linguistics puzzles testing pattern recognition in unfamiliar languages. These questions do not require prior knowledge of the language, only logical deduction skills.
