JoSAA 2020 Counselling: After the announcement of first-round allotment results of JoSAA counselling, it has been observed that the top rankers are preferring mathematics over various engineering branches.
Mathematics emerged as the most popular stream after Computer Science Engineering (CSE) among JEE Advanced 2020 toppers who are aspiring to study in IITs. It has been observed that engineering streams other than CSE are not among the top priorities of students.

As per the trends after the first round of JoSAA 2020 seat allotment, Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering and other branches are not as preferable as Mathematics among engineering aspirants.
A student with 111 rank in JEE Advanced chose CSE in IIT Kanpur whereas a student with 128 rank in the exam opted for the Mathematics in IIT Bombay. Students with 156 rank and 444 rank in JEE Advanced 2020 chose Mathematics in IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur respectively.
According to experts, the reason behind the trend is due to the huge demand for Data Analytics professionals in every sector across the globe. Almost every industry is utilising data for better results and that's why students are opting for CSE and Mathematics.
The trend was witnessed during the first round of seat allotment of JoSAA 2020 counselling. The result for the same was announced on October 17. JoSAA counselling is scheduled to be conducted until November 13. There will be six rounds which will be conducted online. Document verification will also be conducted online this year.
