The State of Eligibility proof is the official verification document that identifies the state from which you cleared your qualifying exam. This determines your regional quota allocation for engineering admissions. Every single candidate who gets a seat in NIT/IIIT/GFTI in the JoSAA counselling rounds needs to upload the state of eligibility proof.

Check here what the state is of eligibility proof in JoSAA, who needs it and when to upload it on this page below.

State of Eligibility Proof in JoSAA 2026

State of Eligibility Proof in JoSAA 2026 Counselling: State of Eligibility is the state from where you have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination. This determines your Home State quota for admissions in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. For the purpose of allocating seats for the NIT+ System, candidates are also assigned a state code of eligibility.

The State of Eligibility is highly important because it directly impacts the college selection, seat allocation, and admission chances through quota reservations on JoSAA. The NITs and IIITs reserve 50% of their seats for candidates from the Home State. To prove their state of eligibility, candidates have to upload a valid document as proof.

What is the State Code of Eligibility in JoSAA Counselling?

State code of eligibility means the code of the state from where the candidate has first appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination. The codes of the states are the same as those given in the JEE Main 2026 Information Bulletin. It is important to note that the state code of eligibility does NOT depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate.

  • For example, if a candidate appears for the Class XII examination in Delhi and is a resident of NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh, the candidate’s state code of eligibility will be that of Delhi State and NOT that of Uttar Pradesh.
  • If a candidate has first appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, the candidate’s state code of eligibility will be from where the candidate first appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination and NOT the state from where the candidate has appeared for improvement.
  • For Indian nationals passing the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from an institution abroad (e.g., Nepal, Bhutan, Gulf countries, Sri Lanka, UK, US, Canada, etc.), the state code of eligibility will be determined based on the permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate.
  • The state code of eligibility of OCI/PIO (I) candidates passing Class XII (or equivalent) examination in India is at par with that of Indian nationals. However, OCI/PIO (I) candidates passing the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from an institution abroad are eligible for Other State quota seats or All India quota seats (but NOT for Home State quota seats) in the NIT+ System.

The most important thing to understand is that JoSAA counselling does not apply to private engineering colleges at all — it strictly manages admissions for premier government-funded institutions only. So if you are targeting private engineering colleges in Chennai like SRM, VIT, or Saveetha, you wil

No, students do not have to apply separately at IIT Roorkee website after JoSAA counselling. This is because the institute follows a common admission process for its BTech course just like the other IITs. No, JoSAA counselling is not required for the students who want to take admission on the basis of entrance in BTech at Army Institute of Technology, Pune. Only entrance scores are considered at the time of admission. Students need to submit JEE Mains scorecard at the time of admission.

With NITPY being one of the top institutes and part of the NIT Tag, the cutoff is always high. But 92 percentile can be enough for later

Think of JoSAA as a matching service. After your JEE Advanced results, you'll log into the JoSAA portal and rank your preferred branches at IIT Dharwad. The system then looks at your All India Rank (AIR) and your choices to offer you the best possible seat. Once a seat is offered, you'll pay the fee
