The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has released the JoSAA seat matrix for all JoSAA 2026 participating institutes. The institute-wise, course-wise, and category-wise seats available for admission in the 2026-27 academic session are now available via the JoSAA seat matrix 2026. This year, IITs are offering a total of 18951 seats.

JoSAA 2026 seat matrix has been released with all the details of JoSAA 2026 counselling on the official website josaa.nic.in. JoSAA 2026 seat matrix for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs have course-wise and category-wise numbers of seats available for the 2026-27 academic session. Read below to know all details.

JoSAA Seat Matrix 2026: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has released the JoSAA seat matrix for all JoSAA 2026 participating institutes. The institute-wise, course-wise, and category-wise seats available for admission in the 2026-27 academic session are now available via the JoSAA seat matrix 2026. This year, IITs are offering a total of 18951 seats, NITs are offering 25162 seats, IIITs have a total of 11518 seats on offer, and GFTIs will offer 11692 seats. Thus, the total number of seats available via JoSAA counselling 2026 is 67,323.

Last year, IITs offered 18,160 seats, NITs offered 24,525 seats, IIITs offered 9,940 seats, and the Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes offered 10,228 seats. In total, 128 institutes are offering  62,853 seats.

For the academic session 2024-25, the IITs offered 17760 seats, NITs offered 24229 seats, IIITs offered 8546 seats, and the GFTIs offered a total of 9402 seats via the JoSAA counselling. JoSAA seat matrix gives detailed information on the Institute and course-wise state and all India seats to be offered in each category - Open, Open-PwD, Gen-EWS, GEN-EWS-PwD, SC, ST, SC-PwD, ST-PwD, OBC-NCL, OBC-NCL-PwD. Documents for Online Reporting / Registration

The following documents must be uploaded by candidates for online reporting and registration, whether for the NIT+ system or admission to IITs.

  • General Mandatory Documents
  • Proof of Date of Birth: Class X Mark Sheet/Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or Birth Certificate.
  • Academic Records: Class XII Mark Sheet and Certificate (Qualifying Examination). (Note: For IIT admissions, usually only the Class XII Mark Sheet is specified, but the certificate is generally required for the NIT+ system.)
  • Bank Details: A crossed bank cheque copy or an image of your passbook showing account details (for refund purposes).
  • Medical Certificate: A valid medical fitness certificate. Category-Specific Documents (If Applicable) 
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS): A valid certificate issued by the competent authority in the Government of India format (as per the JoSAA website guidelines).
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD): Original PwD Certificate issued by the competent authority. Original Certificate for persons having less than 40% disability and having difficulty in writing, if applicable.
  • International Candidate Documents (If Applicable) OCI/PIO: OCI certificate or PIO card.
  • Citizenship Proof: Passport or Citizenship certificate.
Q:   What is PAF in JoSAA?
A: 

PAF is Partial Admission Fee, which is to be paid by candidates who get provisionally allotment in the NIT+System during the JoSAA rounds, provided the seat has not been cancelled or withdrawn. PAF can be paid using UPI/Credit card/Debit card/Internet Banking. Candidates who fail to remit the PAF will not be allotted a seat.

How to Check JoSAA Seat Matrix 2026?

Check the steps below to check the JoSAA seat matrix 2026:

  1. Navigate to the official website of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
  2. Look for the eServices or Seat Matrix section directly on the homepage dashboard.
  3. Click on the active JoSAA Seat Matrix Link to load the interactive filtering tool.
  4. Select your desired parameters from the dropdown menus:
    1. Institute Type: Choose between IIT, NIT, IIIT, or GFTI.
    2. Institute Name: Select the specific college (e.g., IIT Bombay, NIT Trichy).
    3. Academic Program: Select the engineering branch (e.g., Computer Science and Engineering).
  5. Click on the Submit button to view the breakdown of open, gender-neutral, female-only, and reserved category seats (OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD) for that course.

The JoSAA Seat Matrix is an official, comprehensive list published annually by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) that details the exact number of available engineering seats for the academic year.

It acts as the master blueprint for students participating in the centralised counselling process for admission into all premier technical institutes - including all 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST, IISs, 26 IIITs, and 56 GFTIs.

JoSAA Counselling is for government/NIT/IIT-level colleges, you need a JEE Main/Advanced score, seats are allotted by the government, fees are lower, and the process is centralized and merit-based.

Yes, participating in JoSAA counselling is mandatory to get a BTech seat in Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Students must first pass JEE Advanced exam. Then students must register on the official portal for counselling, for final seat allotment.
