NTA JEE Mains 2026 Dates Session 1 & 2: The NTA has released the notification with details of JEE Mains 2026 exam schedule and registration date. As per the notification, JEE Main exam 2026 will be conducted in two sessions, session 1 in January and session 2 in April. JEE Mains 2026 registration session 1 will start in October. JEE Main information brochure 2026 with details on syllabus, exam pattern, and other important details will be available soon on the official website - jeemain.nta.nic.in

The exact JEE Mains 2026 exam date session 1 will be around January last week, 2026. The second session will likely be conducted from April first week, 2026. JEE Main 2026 Application form will be released separately for both sessions. The tentative JEE Mains 2026 registration date session 1 is around October 2nd week, 2025 while for session 2, application form will be available from February first week, 2026.

Q:   Will I be allowed to appear in the exam If I come late to the exam centre?
A: 

Candidates should report to the JEE Main exam centre as per the time mentioned in their admit card. Ideally, every candidate should report to the exam centre at least one hour prior to the start of JEE Mains exam. The first shift of exam starts at 9 am and the second shift at 3 pm.  

Q:   What is the timing and duration of JEE Main exam?

The duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours or 180 minutes. Candidates who fall under PwD category are given 4 hours to complete the exam as they are provided 20 minute extra for every one hour. Students who opts to appear in Paper 2A (BArch) and Paper 2B (BPlan) both will be provided 3.5 hours. 

JEE Mains exam is held in morning and evening session. The timing of morning session is 9 am to 12 noon and for evening session the timing is 3 pm to 6 pm. Each day exam is held in two session.

JEE Main 2026 Application Form Date

The National Testing Agency will release the JEE Main application form on its official website - jeemain.nta.nic.in in October for the session 1 exam while the session 2 registration will start in February first week, 2026. Candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria can fill in the application form as per JEE Main 2026 dates. To successfully submit the application form, candidates will have to pay the JEE Main application form fees which for general category is INR 1000, for OBC candidates it is INR 800, and for SC candidates it is INR 500. 

While filling the JEE Main application form candidates will have to upload a scanned image of their passport-sized photo and signature as per the prescribed format mentioned in the notification PDF. Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL or EWS need to provide details of the certificate issuing person and date of issue in the application form. PwD/PwBD candidates need to upload their category certificates.

JEE Main Admit Card and City Intimation Slip 2026

The NTA JEE Main Admit Card will be released by NTA on the official website. Candidates who successfully submit their application are issued the hall ticket which they can download and carry to the exam centre on the day of the JEE Main exam. Along with the hall ticket of JEE Main candidates will also have to carry their valid photo ID proof such as admit card, voter ID, PAN card or driving license, one passport-size photo (the same photo uploaded in the application form). First the exam body will release the JEE Main city intimation which will be followed by the admit card. Candidates will have to download and take one printout of their NTA JEE Main Admit Card preferably in colour.

Once the exam is conducted, NTA will release the provisional JEE Main Answer Key on the official website. Along with the provisional JEE answer key, NTA JEE Mains Response Sheet and question paper have also been released. First, NTA releases the JEE Main provisional Answer Key PDF and candidates can challenge the it for 2 days by submitting their grievance if they have any objection. Candidates will have to pay INR 200 per question to raise objections to the JEE Mains answer key provisionally. The grievances submitted by the candidates in the JEE Main answer key challenge are reviewed by the NTA and the JEE Main final answer key  is then released.

The JEE Main Result 2026 session 1 will be announced in February second week and the second attempt result will be announced in April last week. Candidates need to use their application number and password at the JEE Mains login to check the result. JEE Main 2026 Counselling Date

The Joint Seat Allocation authority (JoSAA) conducts the JEE Main counselling for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Candidates who appear in JEE Main are eligible to participate in the counselling for admission to all the participating institutes of JoSAA through JEE Main scores. To participate in the counselling, candidates have to register online on the website and fill in their choices of their preferred institutes and branches. Candidates must go through JoSAA eligibility criteria before appearing in the counselling process. Candidates allotted seats through JoSAA counselling must confirm their admission online and deposit the fees as per the date mentioned in their provisional allotment letter.

To register for the JoSAA candidates will must have a valid JEE Main score. Candidates with a rank in JEE Advanced will be admitted to IITs through JoSAA. Admissions to all 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and GFTIs will be through JoSAA counselling. Post doing the formalities, for candidates will be able to get admission into NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs as well as other participating colleges of JoSAA. Candidates will be allotted seats through JoSAA and they must exercise the freeze/float/slide option and confirm their admission by the last date. Candidates need not have 75 percent marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Main. As per the official brochure released by the NTA, there is no minimum percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main. The requirement of 75 percent marks need not be associated with appearing in the JEE Main exam.

It is to be understood that 75 percent marks is required for admission to institutes which include NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. Many institutes offer admission at 60% and even less, along with JEE Main. Candidates must clearly understand that the requirement of 75 percent marks in class 12 is only for taking admission in the institutes.

Q:   What is the age limit to apply for JEE Main?
A: 

As per the JEE Main eligibility criteria released by the NTA, there is no maximum or minimum age to apply for JEE Main. Candidates of any age can apply and appear in the JEE Main exam. The only criteria which is applicable is that the candidate can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12. For example, if a candidate is applying for JEE Main 2026, candidate must have passed class 12 in 2024, 2025 or appearing in 2026.

Q:   Is JEE Main Admit card and city intimation slip same?
A: 

No, JEE Main admit card and exam city slip are not same. Exam city intimation slip gives details about exam city and date of exam of candidates. It is released before the release of admit cards. 

JEE Main admit card is the hall ticket, which allows entry to thee exam hall for appearing in the exam. Candidates are allowed to appear in the exam only with JEE Mains admit card and not exam city slip.

Q:   How many candidates appear in JEE Mains exam every year?
A: 

As per the official numbers released by the NTA, a total of 13.11 lakh candidates registered for the JEE Main 2025 session 1 exam of which 12.58 lakh candidates appeared. This is the highest number of candidates appeared in JEE Mains. In JEE Main 2024, the total number of unique candidates who appeared both the session is 11.7 lakh.  Canddiates can see the gender-wise distribution of candidates below. Generally, the number of unique candidates appearing in JEE Main every year is around 10 Lacs in both sessions.
