Admission in top engineering colleges like IITs and NITs is a dream for every aspirant as well as their parents. It’s a status symbol and a guarantee for parents that their childs future is secured with a high paying job in top MNCs. However, preparation for exams like JEE Main and Advanced often accompanies stress and societal pressure.

Parents sometimes unknowingly add to the stress by comparing their child with peers and imposing their ambitions on them. Moreover, students are often unable to share their burden and pressure with their parents.

Parents thus have an important role to play in assisting children in realizing their IIT and NIT aspirations through providing emotional, practical, and motivational help along the arduous preparation process. Their contribution from making the study environment conducive to facilitating proper resources and supplies and imparting motivation can go a long way in enhancing a student's performance as well as psyche.

This way, they can set realistic expectations and give useful advice.

Parents can assist their child with routine planning that balance study, and rest, facilitate access to books required for preparation, online resources, expert coaching to sharpen preparation and boosts their confidence.

A Note to Parents

Preparation for exam like JEE, NEET should begin with clear career objective and goal. Many students appear in JEE exam just because their parents want it or because of peer and societal pressure. While parents can support their children in many ways, it is important that parents facilitate an open, non-judgmental communication to know their concerns and desires. They can meet schoolteachers of their ward to understand the interest of child. It is important to understand that every child has an inborn interest in something. There are many rewarding career options, other than engineering or medical and no parent should force their child to choose any specific career.
