After class 12, students need to choose a field of study. In every entrance exam, aptitude tests for different subjects are conducted to assess the student’s knowledge about the specific course/ subject.

In the field of law, different entrance exams are conducted by different colleges. One that is most preferred is the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). CLAT is a national-level entrance exam for admission in various National Law Universities (NLUs) across the country. Similarly, Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) is conducted by the Symbiosis International (Deemed) Universities for admission in their five-year integrated law courses.

The main sections included in SLAT are:

  • Legal Aptitude
  • General Awareness
  • English Language
  • Elementary mathematics
  • Logical Reasoning

The most scoring among these sections depends on one’s personal interest in the subjects. However, the trickiest of all is the General Awareness section. The questions could be asked from any field.

SLAT is much easier exam than CLAT. However, the syllabus of both exams is the same. There is no negative marking in SLAT.

To prepare for the entrance exam, complete the syllabus at least two weeks before the exam to get some time for revision. Prepare shot notes of each topic from day one as this would help in revising the topics before the exam. Follow the pattern of studying one subject in a day as it would be impossible to complete a subject at the last moment. Try to revise the short notes regularly to get a good grip on the subject.

To prepare from home, every topic and sub-topics are available on YouTube by different teachers and coaching classes. The students could refer to these online videos and understand the topics well. Practise previous year question papers and mock tests regularly as this would help in managing time. One of the best reference books to prepare for the law entrance exam is Universal Law Publication. This book has all the topics covered with mock papers and last year’s questions on each topic from all the exams conducted across the country

Q:   How can I prepare for SLAT?
Q:   Which subjects should I study to crack SLAT?
Q:   What was the difficulty level of different sections in the question paper for SLAT 2023?

The requirement of SLAT varies course-wise. Candidates seeking admission in BA LLB (Hons) or BBA LLB (Hons) courses must have a valid SLAT score for admission. However, SLAT is not required for any other offered programmes. SIU conducts SLAT or Symbiosis Law Admission Test once in a year in computer
