Commonly asked questions
Q:   Who releases TANCET cutoff scores?
A:
TANCET participating colleges define the TANCET cutoff scores or the last ranks for admission. However, participating institutes do not release a cutoff list for candidates to check during the admission process. In fact the cutoff scores are not released by any authority during the admission session. Candidates can find the TANCET cutoff scores and TANCET last ranks, from the previous admission session, published on the official admission website, I. e. Tamil Nadu-mbamca. Com. All queries related to the centralised admission, counselling, cutoffs, vacancy details, among other information is published on the counselling website, aka the admission website. Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, has the authority to publish the previous year TANCET cutoff on the official admission website.
Q:   What is the lowest TANCET cutoff to join PSG College of Technology for MBA course?
A:

PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, is among the top MBA colleges accepting TANCET scores for admission. As per the TANCET cutoff from 2021 and 2020 session, candidates who had secured more than 99 percentile were admitted to the college for MBA Admission. The cutoff score for each year varies and the reservation quota also has an impact on PSGCT admission. Generally if a candidate is ranked within top 130 test takers, he she has a higher chance of getting into PSG College of Technology. Candidates can get the TANCET rank list and TANCET cutoff scores/ranks from the previous session available on the Tamil Nadu MBA Admission website.

Q:   Does TANCET colleges publish last ranks statement or cutoff scores?
A:
TANCET participating colleges do not release a cutoff score or a cutoff rank. Participating colleges prepare a cutoff score list or last rank list to select candidates for admission. However, this list is not released before the admission process is closed. Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, releases the TANCET cutoff rank as well as the TANCET cutoff marks for all participating colleges in a consolidated list. Commonly asked questions
Q:   What are some of the TANCET colleges for admission to 99+ percentile holders?
A:
Tamil Nadu has more than 300 MBA colleges that accept TANCET scores for MBA Admission. Candidates with a 99+ percentile can easily convert the admission call from the top colleges accepting TANCET. CEG and PSGCT are the only colleges that offer admission only to 99+ percentile from the Open category. Candidates securing 99 percentile in TANCET exam must choose the college and course preference during the choice-filling process with caution. Candidates who have a score of 99 percentile can easily expect the admission in PSGCT or CEG, Anna University.
Q:   Which TANCET score would be used for admissions into TANCET MBA colleges? I have an actual score of 29.33 and a percentile score of 87.678.
A:
Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, only considers TANCET percentile score. TANCET actual score is calculated by allotting 1 mark each for the correct response and deducting 1/3 mark for each incorrect response. The actual score can be converted into a percentile score after evaluating the total test takers with an actual score that is less than a particular test taker. For example, Mohan has an actual score of 59 marks, and 95% of the total test takers secured an actual score below 59. In such a case, the percentile score of Mohan will be 95. Similarly, if 98% of the test takers had secured an actual score less than 59, Mohan would get 98 as his percentile score in TANCET exam. Further, DTE allots TANCET rank based on the percentile score of the test taker eligible for the counselling process.
Q:   What is the cut off of Anna University for MBA admission?
A:

The Anna University MBA cutoff 2025 varies for different colleges, rounds, and categories. The MBA course is offered via affiliated colleges of Anna University, wherein the last round cutoff score for MBA admission stood at 5641 for Selvam Educational Institutions, 5632 for Nehru Institute of Information Technology and Management and 5615 for M.A.M. TANCET 2025 Ranks Allotment

DTE prepares the TANCET rank list using the percentile scores. Each candidate gets a rank based on how well they performed compared to others. The higher the percentile, the better the rank. The top scorer gets Rank 1, the next best gets Rank 2, and so on. The rank list also includes community-wise rankings for all candidates.

How to Calculate TANCET Score (Percentile)?

Anna University uses a set marking system to calculate each candidate's actual score. The percentile score is calculated by comparing how many candidates scored lower out of the total test takers. The actual score shows individual performance. The percentile shows performance compared to others.

Anna University calculates the TANCET percentile score using the following formula:

Formula for TANCET Percentile Score Calculation

TANCET Percentile Score

(X/Y)×100

In the above formula of TANCET percentile score:

  • X refers to the total number of test takers with a lower score
  • Y is the total number of test takers in TANCET exam

TANCET Rank Allotment in Cases of Tie: Tie Breaking Criteria

TANCET 2025 ranks are given based on the candidate’s percentile score. If two candidates have the same percentile, a tie occurs. DTE breaks the tie by checking who has higher average marks in their qualifying degree, from the first to the second-last semester. If the scores are still the same, the older candidate is given preference in the rank list.
