How to Prepare for NEET 2021 with exam scheduled in September

In the following sections, we present five preparation tips and a couple of practical advice that students should follow in order to keep themselves healthy and fit in this uncertain time period.

Prepare timetable: Assuming that students have completed the NEET syllabus and have reviewed their strong and weak areas, it is the right time to do section-wise revision and practice by solving previous years’ question papers and mock tests. In this stage, it is important to create a preparation timetable that should be inclusive of sectional revision, taking mock tests or solving NEET question papers, followed by analysis.

Take for example, in the morning hours, invest five to six hours to revise the sections. It can be either putting one or two hours for one section, or the entire duration for thorough preparation of one section. It is ideal to take NEET mock tests from 2 pm to 5 pm as it would help aspirants’ body clock and psyche to get adjusted to appear for the actual exam day. In the evening hours, after taking a break, students can revise topics of their strong areas or analyse the tests taken to plan on the preparation based on their performance.

Assess and improve weak areas: In case there is a postponement of the NEET 2021 exam till September, aspirants will get another chance to improve the weak areas. While it is not advised to start a new topic or to prepare weak areas at the last moment, since now there is around two months to go for the exam, students still have the chance to improve the topics they are not confident of. They should assess these topics again to understand the reason for the weakness and prepare with a new approach. After identifying these topics and checking their mock test and question paper analysis, they should consult with their mentors to plan and decide on a new preparation technique.

Finalise your test-taking strategy: With regular practice and solving previous years’ papers, NEET candidates will have to decide the test-taking strategy for the actual exam day. The exam taking strategy should include factors such as time management, order of attempting section-wise questions, the minimum number of questions to be attempted accurately, among others. It would be beneficial for candidates to frame more than one exam taking strategy so that they can try multiple approaches and finally come up with the most fruitful one. If they keep this task for later, then they would not be able to check how fruitful the strategy would be.

Clear your doubts: This is the best time to clear all the doubts related to NEET 2021 exam pattern, topics or question types. They must ensure that they take these questions to a credible person such as their teachers or experts or Medical students who have already cracked NEET. In today’s era of social media, there are a number of channels, groups and forums where there are several self-proclaimed experts are present. But one must be careful to approach the right person, otherwise, he/she may get misled or confused with inaccurate information.

Prepare basics of topics you decided to leave out: Since the official NEET 2021 exam date is August 1, NEET aspirants may have left out topics of weakness or difficult topics aside. While the experts advise the same that preparing tough or weak topics in the last month may hamper their confidence level and also decrease their time for preparing areas which would be more scoring. Now that there is some more time in hand, aspirants can prepare for the basics or get the conceptual clarity of the topics or chapters they had not touched so far. This would diverse the array of topics and questions they can attempt from the NEET question papers.

Don’t pay heed to rumours and speculations: In this situation of ambiguity, it is easy to get misled with rumours and speculations. There are several fake news doing rounds on social media claiming to be official NEET 2021 notices, confusing aspirants. If they shift their focus from their preparation and pay heed to such false alarms, not only they will get further confused, but that would hamper their concentration required to prepare for the exam as well and hence they should avoid it at all costs.
