The NIRF 2025 Rankings are out. IIT Kanpur has been ranked #5 under the 'Overall', #4 under the 'Engineering' category, #6 under the 'Research Institutions' category, and #27 under the 'Management' category.
As per the latest QS Rankings 2026, IIT Kanpur is ranked #222 in the 'World University' category.
The GATE 2026 exam for admission to ME/MTech/PhD courses will be conducted on Feb 7, Feb 8, Feb 14, and Feb 15, 2026.
A few more updates are given below:
- The JEE Advanced 2026 application form is expected to be released in April 2026, and the examination will be conducted on May 17, 2026.
- The JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam for IIT Kanpur admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlan courses will tentatively be conducted between Jan 21 and Jan 30, 2026.
- The IIT JAM 2026 exam date for admission to the MSc course is Feb 15, 2026.
- For the M.Des programme, the CEED 2026 entrance exam is scheduled for Jan 18, 2026, with results to be announced on Mar 4, 2026.

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. The institute accepts two major entrance exams for undergraduate engineering courses (BTech), JEE Advanced and JEE Main. Admission to each programme, i.e., available at this institute, can be secured by achieving a certain level of scores in the entrance examinations, like GATE, IIT JAM, CEED, and CAT. IIT Kanpur JEE Advanced cutoff 2025 ranged between 271 and 10482 for BTech admission for multiple specialisations, based on the last round closing ranks for the General AI category candidates, wherein, according to JEE Advanced cutoff 2025, BTech in Computer Science and Engineering had the toughest competition. Students aiming for admission should strive for a rank of 10482 or preferably lower to increase their chances for admission. Please note that different cutoffs are released for different categories and rounds.
The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.
IIT Kanpur BSc course admission is entirely entrance-based. Candidates seeking admission to the BSc programme are required to apply and appear for the JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced exam. Therefore, candidates cannot get the direct admission to IIT Kanpur BSc course.

Yes, IIT Kanpur offer the most spacious hostels and the largest rooms for the students along with 22 hours of eating facilities available in the campus ranging from some well-known food chains to hostel canteens which are well-stocked. Every hostel has a basketball court, few badminton courts, a volleyball court, table tennis room, a television room, a computer room, a reading room for newspaper, magazines, journals, etc., and a hall office to handle hostel affairs.

Yes, IIT Kanpur also offers an option of a dual degree, i.e., Bachelors-Masters Dual Degree to the students. A student earns both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at the end of this five-year course. The dual degree programme has three categories:
- Category A: In this case, both degrees are in the same discipline/department. Example: BTech-M Tech.
- Category B: This is a two-discipline/ department programme where the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is in a different discipline/ department. Thus, three combinations are possible in this category, ex: BTech-M Tech, BTech-MS and BTech-MDes. Students can choose any one of the aforementioned combinations.
- Category C: In this case, the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is MBA. Ex: BTech-MBA.

According to media reports, phase 1 of the placement session 2022-23 concluded with 1,200 job offers received from over 250 companies.
