IIT Ropar Collaborates with Shoolini University to Launch Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Program

IIT Ropar has signed a MoU with Shoolini University to launch a joint interdisciplinary program in AI, aimed at fostering collaborative research and advanced learning in the field.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar’s AWaDH (Technology Innovation Hub) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shoolini University to introduce a joint Minor Programme in Artificial Intelligence. This strategic collaboration aims to promote translational research, technology transfer, and skill development while nurturing an ecosystem of interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
A key highlight of this partnership is the introduction of a joint 15-credit Minor Programme in Artificial Intelligence + X, designed with a 'Learning by Practice' approach and delivered through the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) Lab. The programme will culminate in a joint certification from Shoolini University and IIT Ropar. Emphasizing its interdisciplinary nature, the ‘X’ component allows students to blend AI with domains such as Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Management, thereby broadening its relevance and impact across diverse fields.
To bolster the academic and research goals of this initiative, the Cyber-Physical System Lab will serve two key functions. First, it will drive industry-focused research aimed at solving pressing societal challenges. Second, it will act as a skill development hub, providing hands-on learning opportunities in cutting-edge technologies such as AI, AR/VR, Data Science, Generative AI, Robotics, and Multi-Sensory Systems for students ranging from Grade 11 to the postgraduate level.
Prof P K Khosla, founder and chancellor, Shoolini University, said the MoU with AWaDH (Technology Innovation Hub), Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, would go a long way in strengthening cutting-edge research. He said, “both the institutions were young and share the hunger for innovation and excellence”.
Prof. Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh, Project Director iHub-AWaDH & Dean R&D, IIT Ropar, said, “We are committed to ensuring that every student can learn cutting-edge technologies from the best faculty, all at an affordable cost. Recognizing the challenges colleges face in evolving their curricula, especially with rapidly advancing technologies, we have developed this course in collaboration with NSDC and Masai. The ‘Minor in AI’ program ensures that the curriculum remains dynamic and up to date, with top experts teaching the content.”
