The Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is an all-India level online entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. JAM scores will be used for admission to over 2000 seats for postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc. and M.A. at IISc and various NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through Centralized Counselling for M.Sc / M.Sc. (Tech.) Admission (CCMN).

The process is completely online, right from the registration process to depositing the online fee for the examination. IIT JAM 2026 Eligibility Criteria
IIT Delhi has stated the IIT JAM 2026 eligibility criteria, which are given below:
- In order to fulfil the IIT JAM 2026 eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree. Earlier, there was a CGPA cutoff, but this year onwards, candidates need to just pass the qualifying degree.
- Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the proof by September 2026.

IIT JAM 2026 Pattern, Syllabus and Mock Test
IIT JAM 2026 exam pattern remained the same as that of last year. It will be a computer-based test of three hours duration, conducted in two slots. The total number of questions is 60, and the total marks is 100. There are three types of questions, which are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). IIT Bombay will release the IIT JAM 2026 answer key in the fourth week of February 2026. Candidates can download the IIT JAM 2026 answer key by using their login credentials. In case of any discrepancy, candidates will be able to submit challenges within the time issued by the authority by logging into the IIT JAM 2026 candidate portal.
Candidates will also be given the option to file objections against the provisional IIT JAM 2026 answer keys by paying a fee of INR 500 per question. Candidates will have to select the IIT JAM exam centre city while filling out the application form. They will have to enter as many as two exam cities in preferential order. NTA will try to allot the exam centre according to candidates preferences. However, the final decision will be made by the exam authorities.
Candidates has to follow the steps given below to select the exam city of JAM 2025:
1. Visit the JAM 2025 website.
2. In the Exam City Preference section of the JAM 2024 application form, select three cities in preferential order.
3. Complete the application process by paying the requisite application fee. The exam city preference can be changed during the application correction window.

IIT JAM 2025 Scorecard is basically a rankcard which consist of the number of marks which the aspirant has achieved in the IIT JAM 2025 examination. The Score Card will contain separate scores for Section A, B and C. The University will draw the merit list based on the total score achieved by the candidates.

There will be a total of 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire paper will be divided into three sections, A, B and C. All sections are compulsory. Questions in each section will be of different types as given below:
Section - C contains a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions involving 10 questions of one mark each and 10 questions of two marks each. For NAT questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered using the virtual numeric keypad displayed on the monitor. No choices will be shown for NAT questions. There is no negative marking for NAT.
The last date for filling up the online application form for MSc courses will be October 12, 2025. Candidates qualifying in JAM 2026 are eligible to apply for admission to around 3000 seats in IITs for the academic year 2026-26. No additional evaluation process, such as suitability test or interview is required for admission to the programmes in Admitting Institutes under JAM 2026.
IIT JAM 2026 for the academic session 2026-2027 will be conducted by IIT Delhi, the examination conducting body on February 15, 2026. Aspirants who had already completed an undergraduate degree (BSc) or are currently studying in the final year of undergraduate programmes are eligible to apply for the exam.
IIT JAM 2024 applications shall be scrutinized to verify the data entered by the candidate with the submitted supporting documents, clarity of the photograph and signature. If everything is found to be in order, the application will be accepted. Otherwise, defects in the application will be marked and intimated to the candidate for rectification within a stipulated time. The status of the application and defects marked in the application will be intimated to the candidates through e-mail and/or SMS. The latest status of an application will be updated after the receipt and re-scrutiny of the application.
The status of an application can be checked at any point of time by logging in JOAPS. Candidates should rectify the marked defects in the application before the stipulated deadline. Failing to rectify the defects within the stipulated time can lead to the rejection
of the application.
Scribes will be arranged for those PwD candidates who have requested to be provided with a scribe at the time of application.
Qualification of the scribe arranged by test center will NOT be more than the minimum eligibility criteria of JAM 2025. However, the qualification of the scribe will be matriculation (10th) or above. If there are Y candidates who require scribe, it will be ensured that a panel of (Y+1) scribes is available at the exam centre so that every candidate can have an alternative scribe to choose for the services.
Each eligible PwD candidate will be presented with TWO scribes on the day before examination. The candidate has to choose one from these two scribes. Candidates will NOT be permitted to bring their own scribe, if they have already requested to be provided with scribes. PwD Candidates are permitted to visit the Exam Centre a day before the examination to get familiarized with the arrangements.
