IIT Bombay have released JAM 2026 exam application form on September 5, 2025. The last date of application is October 12, 2025. The IIT JAM 2026 Exam will be held on February 15, 2026, to provide admissions to master's degree and integrated Phd programmes in MSc and MS. Applicants must visit the official website to register online. Candidates are advised to go through the IIT JAM 2026 eligibility criteria before applying.

Students need to submit the IIT JAM 2026 application form by paying the registration fee after creating a registered account. IIT JAM 2026 admit card will be out on January 5, 2026. Only those candidates who successfully registered will be able to download the hall ticket PDF by logging in to their registered account. IIT JAM 2026 exam will be conducted online/CBT mode in two shifts, and the exam duration is three hours in exam centres located across India.

What is IIT JAM?

The Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is an all-India level online entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT JAM is conducted to provide admission to candidates in MSc and other postgraduate courses offered at IITs and integrated PhD courses offered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Q:   How many admitting institutes are there in IIT JAM 2026?
A: 

There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 21 IITs for the academic year 2025-26. JAM 2025 Scores will be used to admit the candidates subject to satisfying the ERs and MEQs and any other necessary requirements, without any additional interview or written test.
JAM scores will be used for admission to over 2000 seats for postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc. and M.A. at IISc and various NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through Centralized Counselling for M.Sc / M.Sc. (Tech.) Admission (CCMN).

The IIT JAM 2026 application process started on September 5, 2025, as per the schedule. The process is completely online, right from the registration process to depositing the online fee for the examination. Candidates need to first visit the official website of the exam to complete the application process and pay the application fee in online mode. IIT JAM 2026 Eligibility Criteria

IIT Delhi has stated the IIT JAM 2026 eligibility criteria, which are given below:

  • In order to fulfil the IIT JAM 2026 eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree. Earlier, there was a CGPA cutoff, but this year onwards, candidates need to just pass the qualifying degree.
  • Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the proof by September 2026.
  • For the admission process, candidates who pass the IIT JAM 2026 exam will be eligible to apply for the admission process.

Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2026 exam.

IIT JAM 2026 Pattern, Syllabus and Mock Test

IIT JAM 2026 exam pattern remained the same as that of last year. It will be a computer-based test of three hours duration, conducted in two slots. The total number of questions is 60, and the total marks is 100. There are three types of questions, which are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). IIT Bombay released the syllabus for IIT JAM 2026 in the Information Brochure on the official website of IIT JAM 2026. Candidates can download PDFs of the IIT JAM syllabus for each subject from the official website of the exam. As compared to last year, the IIT JAM 2026 syllabus is expected to remain the same. Section - B contains a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ is similar to MCQ but with the difference that MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice (s) out of the four given choices. The candidate is awarded full credit only if all the correct answer (s) and no wrong answers are selected. Candidates can mark the answer (s) by clicking the choice (s). There is no negative marking or partial marking for MSQ.

Only those candidates who have successfully completed the application process by paying the application fee will be eligible to download the IIT JAM 2026 admit card. IIT Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) notification has been announced by IIT Bombay, the exam conducting body for the academic year 2026-27. IIT Bombay, the conducting body for IIT JAM 2026, will be commencing the application process on September 5, 2025 in online mode. 

According to the information mentioned in the IIT JAM 2026 Information brochure, which was released by IIT Bombay, the examination conducting body, there is no as such nay age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2026. IIT JAM 2025 Analysis and Student Reactions

The majority of the students appeared for the Mathematics and Chemistry papers in the morning shift. There were a few takers of the Geology paper. IIT JAM 2026 Answer Keys

IIT Bombay will release the IIT JAM 2026 answer key in the fourth week of February 2026. Candidates can download the IIT JAM 2026 answer key by using their login credentials. In case of any discrepancy, candidates will be able to submit challenges within the time issued by the authority by logging into the IIT JAM 2026 candidate portal.

Candidates will also be given the option to file objections against the provisional IIT JAM 2026 answer keys by paying a fee of INR 500 per question. Candidates' OMR sheets will be released along with the answer keys. With the help of the answer keys of IIT JAM 2026, candidates will be able to calculate their estimated scores in the exam and assume which college and branch they are likely to get admission to. IIT JAM 2026 Examination Centres

The JAM 2026 entrance exam will be conducted on February 15, 2026 across cities that are divided into eight zones. There can be more than one IIT JAM exam centre in one city. The exact IIT JAM exam centre details were mentioned on the admit cards issued to candidates. Last year, the exam authorities announced two more exam cities, Port Blair and Haldwani.

Candidates need to select up to three exam cities in order of preference at the time of filling out the IIT JAM application form. However, it may be noted that the first two exam cities should be from the same zone. Candidates may select the third exam city anywhere within India. IIT JAM 2026 Result

The IIT JAM 2026 result will be released on March 20, 2026. Candidates will be able to download their scorecards by logging in using their enrolment ID or email ID along with the password. The scorecard will be released within a few days of declaring the result. The last date to download the IIT JAM scorecard is likely to be in July 2026. The IIT JAM result 2026 will declare candidates' scores as well as the All India Rank (AIR). Qualified candidates will be called for the final admission process or the counselling rounds.

IIT JAM 2025 Scorecard is basically a rankcard which consist of the number of marks which the aspirant has achieved in the IIT JAM 2025 examination. The Score Card will contain separate scores for Section A, B and C. The University will draw the merit list based on the total score achieved by the candidates.

The IIT JAM 2025 Scorecard will be valid for admission to the academic year 2025-26 only. IIT JAM 2026 Counselling

IIT JAM 2026 online application process for counselling will start in April, 2026 onwards. Test takers who have qualified for the JAM 2026 examination will be eligible to sit in the JAM 2026 admission counselling process. The last date for filling out the JAM 2026 counselling application form was April 11, 2026.

Selection of the candidates is done as per the merit secured in IIT JAM 2026. Four rounds of admissions are planned but the number of rounds of admission or counselling rounds may increase in case seats remain vacant. IIT JAM 2026 counselling is being conducted as a Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

CCMN Counselling Through IIT JAM Scores

IIT JAM 2026 Scorecard is also helpful for the candidates who wish to take admissions in the MSc and MSc (Tech) courses offered at  NITs, IIEST Shibpur and some CFTI institutes through the CCMN process 2026. (Centralized Common Counselling).

The organising institute will notify the CCMN 2026 counselling schedule dates in the third week of May 2026, tentatively on the official website. CCMN application form 2026 will be released in the fourth week of May 2026, tentatively on the CCMN official web portal. CCMN Merit List 2026 for seat allotment will be prepared based on the ″Common Percentile″ (calculated from the JAM Rank of the year 2024) obtained by the candidate. The CCMN 2026 counselling is for full-time seats carrying scholarships. It is NOT for candidates seeking admission to Sponsored Seats or part-time programmes.

IIT JAM 2026 Seat Intake

There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 21 IITs for the academic year 2026-27. JAM 2026 Scores will be used to admit the candidates subject to satisfying the ERs and MEQs and any other requirements, without any additional interview or written test. Result Sharing Institutes: JAM scores will be used for admission to over 2300 seats for postgraduate programmes such as MSc and MA at IISc and various NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through Centralised Counselling for MSc / MSc (Tech.) Admission (CCMN).

Q:   What type of question does Section C of IIT JAM exam has?
A: 

There will be a total of 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire paper will be divided into three sections, A, B and C. All sections are compulsory. Questions in each section will be of different types as given below:

Section - C contains a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions involving 10 questions of one mark each and 10 questions of two marks each. For NAT questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered using the virtual numeric keypad displayed on the monitor. No choices will be shown for NAT questions. There is no negative marking for NAT.

Q:   When is the last date for IIT JAM 2026 online registration form?
A: 

The last date for filling up the online application form for MSc courses will be October 12, 2025. Candidates qualifying in JAM 2026 are eligible to apply for admission to around 3000 seats in IITs for the academic year 2026-26. No additional evaluation process, such as suitability test or interview is required for admission to the programmes in Admitting Institutes under JAM 2026.

IIT JAM 2026 for the academic session 2026-2027 will be conducted by IIT Delhi, the examination conducting body on February 15,  2026. Aspirants who had already completed an undergraduate degree (BSc) or are currently studying in the final year of undergraduate programmes are eligible to apply for the exam. 

Q:   Will the JAM 2024 application form undergo scrutiny and rectification?
A: 

IIT JAM 2024 applications shall be scrutinized to verify the data entered by the candidate with the submitted supporting documents, clarity of the photograph and signature. If everything is found to be in order, the application will be accepted. Otherwise, defects in the application will be marked and intimated to the candidate for rectification within a stipulated time. The status of the application and defects marked in the application will be intimated to the candidates through e-mail and/or SMS. The latest status of an application will be updated after the receipt and re-scrutiny of the application.

The status of an application can be checked at any point of time by logging in JOAPS. Candidates should rectify the marked defects in the application before the stipulated deadline. Failing to rectify the defects within the stipulated time can lead to the rejection
of the application.

Q:   Are their any scribes arranged by the examination authority for IIT JAM 2025 examination?
A: 

Scribes will be arranged for those PwD candidates who have requested to be provided with a scribe at the time of application.
Qualification of the scribe arranged by test center will NOT be more than the minimum eligibility criteria of JAM 2025. However, the qualification of the scribe will be matriculation (10th) or above. If there are Y candidates who require scribe, it will be ensured that a panel of (Y+1) scribes is available at the exam centre so that every candidate can have an alternative scribe to choose for the services.
Each eligible PwD candidate will be presented with TWO scribes on the day before examination. The candidate has to choose one from these two scribes. Candidates will NOT be permitted to bring their own scribe, if they have already requested to be provided with scribes. PwD Candidates are permitted to visit the Exam Centre a day before the examination to get familiarized with the arrangements.
