IIT Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) notification has been announced by IIT Guwahati, the exam conducting body for the academic year 2023-24. IIT Guwahati, the conducting body for IIT JAM 2023, has commenced the application process on September 7 in online mode. IIT JAM 2023 will be conducted on February 12, in two sessions exam is conducted to shortlist aspirants for admission in MSc and integrated PhD programmes offered at IITs, NITs, IISERs, CFTIs and IISc Bangalore. The exam will be conducted in two sessions, i.e., Session-I from 9 AM to 12 noon and Session-II to be held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

IIT JAM 2023 will comprise separate question papers for the below-mentioned subjects:

  • Physics (PH)
  • Chemistry (CY)
  • Mathematics (MA)
  • Geology (GG)
  • Mathematical Statistics (MS)
  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Economics (EN)

IIT JAM 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Prior to filling the IIT JAM 2023 application form, aspirants must ensure that they fulfil the IIT JAM 2023 eligibility criteria.

  • In order to fulfil the IIT JAM 2023 eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree. 
  • Candidates who had appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2023 are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the proof by September 2023.
  • For the admission process, candidates who would pass the IIT JAM 2023 exam will be eligible to apply for the admission process.

Till the year 2021, the eligibility criteria for IIT JAM stated that candidates should secure a minimum 55 per cent aggregate or 5.5 CGPA/CPI out of 10 for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates and 50 per cent aggregate or 5.0 CGPA/CPI for the reserved category candidates. However, from last year onwards, this criterion was relaxed. Now, applicants will have to get a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject, and no eligibility cutoff is there. Let us take a look at the other factors below. 

Besides the proof for minimum educational qualification, candidates also need to submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admissions. Candidates found unfit to pursue his/her Science course can be denied admission by the admitting institute.

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria 2023: Age Limit

There are no age limit criteria that candidates need to fulfil in order to appear for IIT JAM 2023.

Candidates need to have studied some subjects in order to meet the eligibility criteria for IIT JAM exam. Aspirants can go through the table below to know about the subject requirements at Class 12 level to be eligible to appear for JAM 2023.

Regarding the IIT JAM 2023 eligibility criteria, IIT Guwahati has stated, "At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. The admitted candidates may also have to undergo a Physical Fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. Admission is liable to be cancelled if a candidate is found physically unfit to pursue their chosen course of study."

The eligibility criteria state that candidates should have a bachelor's degree. Since you already have that, there should not be an issue regarding your MSc status.
