Absolutely great college with amazing peers and faculty support, IIT Delhi.
Placements: Around 70-80% of students are placed by the end of the 4th year. The top students in CSE, MnC, and Electrical departments get high-paying jobs in top tech companies, FAANG companies, international banks like JPMC, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Barclays, product-based companies like Flipkart and Myntra, and HFT firms like Quadeye, Alphabrep, Citadel, Jane Street, etc. Students from all branches are allowed for placements in top tech companies as well as consulting companies like McKinsey, BCG, and KPMG. The highest package is around 2-3 crores per annum, mostly secured by top students from the CSE department.
Infrastructure: High-speed Wi-Fi is available in hostels, classrooms, and libraries. Classrooms have a huge capacity for hundreds of students, have video projectors, and centralized temperature control. Libraries have lots and lots of books on all topics, written by famous authors from almost every era. Hostels are decent; most of them are quite old, with only Girnar, Udaigiri, Dronagiri, and Saptagiri being the newest hostels, and those are also a decade old. Rooms can be double, triple, or single-sharing, depending on the year. Mess food is decent and varies from hostel to hostel, and all hostels have games and gym facilities.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, with most of them having PhDs from top foreign universities. The teaching quality depends on the professor, but all of them are highly knowledgeable and experienced and encourage curiosity. The curriculum is a mix of traditional and fundamental knowledge, using them to build onto teaching about modern standards of the industry. The foundational knowledge is evergreen and helps students in the long run. The difficulty of exams varies from course to course, most of them being challenging, with the pattern depending on the professor teaching the course.
Other: I chose B.Tech in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi because that is what was available to me at my JEE Advanced rank, and it was close to my home. The best thing is that my course is very light and leaves me with time to pursue extracurriculars. I would like it if the lab practicals could be more up-to-date, with an emphasis on standard industry practices and room for innovative thinking. Rendezvous, BECON, and Kaizen are our biggest fests. Every student is engaged in some extracurricular activity or the other, and participation in clubs is highly encouraged.

Best college for engineering.
Placements: Our college had the best placement across the country this year. The highest package was 2.05 crore, the average package was 17 LPA, and the median package was 20 LPA. We have our placement cell named OCS, which helps students in placement and internships. The top recruiters in my course were Amazon and Goldman Sachs.
Infrastructure: On the first day, we were told that IIT is giving you a seat and not a luxurious life to live. The hostels might not have AC and are not that fancy, but speaking about the classrooms, library, labs, halls, etc., they are really well-furnished. The Wi-Fi speed is great across the campus. Talking about the food, the hostels' food is really good if you're from the North and you're vegetarian; otherwise, I have heard a lot of complaints from my non-vegetarian and South Indian friends about the food.
Faculty: The professors here at IIT Delhi have great knowledge and experience in their fields. In the first year, we are taught the basic engineering courses. This really helps as all the students are taught the same subjects together, so you can interact with people from other branches and make so many great connections. Exams here are really competitive as the students you are competing with are the brilliant minds of the country, and so their relative grading makes it difficult. Otherwise, you need hard work and proper time management.
Other: To be honest, I chose textile engineering so that I could enter IIT Delhi. Not only this, but textile engineering has its own perks in that it is less burdensome as compared to other departments, and hence you can find some time for other things you want to do. The events here are grand, and the college offers a lot of extracurricular activities.

IIT is known not for its infrastructure, but for the people present here.
Placements: I am from the textile department of IIT Delhi, and I agree that there is very little probability of being placed in my department because, in lower branches, we have to build our own skills to get placement. What IIT gives us is just an environment and connections with good people.
Infrastructure: Talking about infrastructure, the college has good infrastructure on 350 acres, but the hostel condition at IIT Delhi is not good as there are 4 students in one small room. However, medical facilities and mess food are pretty much better than my expectations.
Faculty: In IIT Delhi, most of the professors are doing research, and they are foreign book authors. They are really helpful. Apart from professors, we are provided with TAs to clear out doubts. In older IITs, the education system is outdated; it should be better and modern technology-based so that students can be ready for the industry.
Other: I chose this course in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi to get exposure, and I think the campus surroundings are really good for exposure.

Dream come true because of the freedom this college provides.
Placements: 100% of the students who sat for placement were placed. Some were placed on campus, and some were placed off campus. The rest left to pursue higher studies. There is no scope for core companies on campus. If a student is studying core subjects, they will need to study non-core subjects to get a placement. The highest package offered in 2024 was INR 2 CPA for international positions and 1 CPA for domestic positions. The average package is around 30 LPA.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, and library facilities at IIT Delhi are very good. I have no complaints in that regard. The quality of the food in the mess is decent. If we don't like something, there's something else on the menu to fill our stomach. And if we talk to the food secretary, we can have something changed.
Faculty: The professors are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They teach very well, and if a student asks a question, they are very friendly in answering it. The course curriculum makes students industry-ready. However, as I mentioned earlier, there is no scope for core companies on campus, and students must study non-core subjects to get a placement. The semester exams are made very tough, and even students who studied from the very beginning were unable to score well. Almost 95% of the batch passed all the courses.
Other: I was getting this course in my rank. I chose it because of the good placement data for IIT Delhi.

Great facilities and placements at IIT Delhi.
Placements: Around 95 percent of the students who sit on the placements here get placed. This year until today, the highest package is 2.5 crores, and the lowest is 15 lacs. As per my knowledge, Qualcomm. Google, Flipkart, Amazon, and many more big companies, including Goldman Sachs, are the top recruiters.
Infrastructure: All the facilities are available, and the infrastructure is also fine, but the hostel's infrastructure is not good; it is luxurious for 1965 people, as it was made in that time. It's decent for today. You will accommodate soon. And about other features, everything is available.
Faculty: Yes, all the teachers are qualified and knowledgeable, and teaching quality was also good. The curriculum is outdated; still, some courses are there that compensate for everything. Semester exams were very tough; the passing percentage was around 30%, varying from subject to subject.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Which college is better for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering: IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay?
A:

The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.

It depends on the number of vacant seats in that branch. Moreover, you should have good marks in the 1st year, then only you can change your branch.

These numbers are never revealed. And also, this number keeps varying year by year. Sometimes it can be high and sometimes it can be low depending on how many students were able to grab those consult/tech jobs which usually pays higher than textile core jobs.

The exact numbers are never revealed. But it has to be the lowest among all other branches. Most of the students don't go for core jobs, and most of the students go for higher studies. Remaining students go for consultancy, analyst or coding profiles.
