BHMS  which is also known as Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery is a UG degree that takes 4 to 5 years to complete. The syllabus majorly focuses on medicine and the treatment of patients using homoeopathy.

The course is divided into eight semesters. The BHMS syllabus focuses on homoeopathic pharmacy, physiology, homoeopathic Materia medica and biochemistry. As the BHMS syllabus progresses, students build an in-depth understanding of the knowledge required to practise homoeopathy successfully. It includes both theoretical and practical studies of human anatomy, physiology, the study of human blood, and much more.

The basic objective of the BHMS syllabus is to create competent physicians (homoeopathic) who can render their services conveniently in urban and rural areas. Emphasis is also given to social aspects that are related to health and ailments to provide a comprehensive medical education to the students. By completing the course of BHMS, the students get introduced to a holistic and dynamic approach towards life along with rationality when it comes to administering medicines.

BHMS consists of all the core subjects as all of them are important for a better understanding of the course. These are listed below.

It is the study of structural abnormalities caused by a certain disease.

Parasitology

It is the study of parasites, their hosts, and how they are related.

BHMS Syllabus: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What is the scope of a BHMS degree?

A. The scope of the BHMS degree in India is worth a lot of consideration. There are many opportunities for those with a BHMS degree. Additionally, BHMS graduates are also granted many government jobs in the country. Hence, in the field of medical sciences, the BHMS graduates have many jobs to choose from.

Q. How long does it take to obtain a BHMS degree?

A. The BHMS degree or Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery degree takes 4 to 5 years to complete. This is a decent time to learn about the fundamentals and complexities involved in homoeopathic medicine. The degree is only provided by the colleges and institutes once the students complete the regular curriculum and a 12-month internship.

Q. How many semesters does the BHMS course last?

A. The BHMS colleges and institutes that offer a 4-year BHMS programme include 8 semesters. However, the BHMS colleges that offer 5 or 5 and ½ year courses include 9 semesters. After the completion of the course, the students are also required to take one year of internship.

Q. Are there elective subjects in a BHMS degree?

A. There are no elective subjects. One can study modern medicine alongside the topics in BHMS. These subjects are the ones that seem to complement each other. After completion of the BHMS course, the students can also opt for the MD courses in homoeopathy. There are various specialisations like psychiatry, skin specialist, pharmacy, infertility treatment, etc., in both bachelor-level and master-level studies.

Q. Is the syllabus for BHMS the same in all institutions teaching it?

A. The course material taught is mostly the same across several institutions. This is mainly because the syllabus for the course is well decided and regulated. However, there might be slight variations in the manner in which the curriculum is divided. It is because the course duration of the BHMS programme can be either 4 or 5 years.

Q. Is BHMS a good course?

A. It is a fact that BHMS or the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery is an excellent course to graduate in because there are reasons that back this. Firstly a BHMS graduate gets a good salary in India and even overseas. There are a lot of job opportunities for BHMS graduates in India.

Q. Is BHMS better than modern medicine?

A. There is also a demand for BHMS graduates; this is because homoeopathic medicine is often preferred over modern medicine as it is seen as a cost-effective alternative to modern medicine. People choose to go for homoeopathic medicine instead of modern medicine. This means that there is an increasing demand for BHMS graduates in a society full of job scopes.

Q. Does the course have subjects correlating with modern medicine?

A. A lot of students learn modern medicine alongside homoeopathy in the BHMS course. Anatomy, psychology, physiology, biochemistry, etc., are some correlated subjects. Though the subjects of MBBS and BHMS are the same, there is a wide difference in the treatment methods and medicines.

Q. Is BHMS more difficult than MBBS?

A. BHMS is not difficult in comparison with MBBS. In fact, both the exams are of the same difficulty level. The curriculum is identical, with the exception of the pharmacy and treatment parts.

Q. What should the students be able to do towards the end of the BHMS course?

A. By the end of IV-BHMS, students will be able to: Clinically diagnose and examine patients with the use of homoeopathic management. • Use homoeopathic principles and effective homoeopathic management to make an accurate diagnosis of patients. • Know preventive aspects of health and diseases • Be aware of how to avoid any medical complications. • Be socially aware of health and diseases. • Select the correct repertory and how to use it as a tool for making effective and correct conclusions. • Better diagnose clinical cases of complex diseases.
