The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay will announce the GATE 2021 result on March 22. The GATE result 2021 will be available online on the official website gate.iitb.ac.in and also on the GATE GOAPS login appsgate.iitb.ac.in. A direct link to download the GATE score card will be provided here. Candidates have to use their registration number/email ID and password to check the GATE 2021 result.

GATE result 2021 will have details about candidates’ score in the exam, all India rank, and cut off. Candidates obtaining marks equal to or above the required GATE 2021 cut off will be considered qualified and will be issued scorecards. Candidates have to download their GATE scorecards and keep its copy safe for M.Tech admissions and also for PSU recruitment through GATE. The scorecards of GATE 2021 will be valid for three years.

Details about candidates score in the exam, all India rank, qualifying marks and other basic details will be mentioned in GATE result. Candidates obtaining the marks above the qualifying score should download their GATE scorecards and take a printout of them for future reference. Candidates must note that only those qualifying for the exam by securing marks above the GATE 2021 cut off will be issued scorecards.

GATE Score Card 2021

GATE scorecards are the official document certifying the qualification of candidates in the GATE exam. Only those candidates who secure mark above the GATE qualifying cutoff are issued scorecards. The validity of the GATE scorecard is 3 years from the date of declaration of result. Scorecards are used at the time of M.Tech admissions as well as for PSU recruitments through GATE. The scorecards are made available for download for a specific period of time without any cost. After the last date to download the scorecard, candidates have to pay Rs.500 as the fee for downloading their scorecards. It is thus advised that candidates download their scorecards and keep them safe.

How to download GATE 2021 Score Card

Step 1- Open the GOAPS portal at appsgate.iitb.ac.in

Step 2- Login using registration number/email ID and password

Step 3- Click on the GATE score card download

Step 4- Download and take a printout of it

The result/scorecard of GATE is the document containing details about the candidates' performance in the exam along with the basic details. The following details are mentioned in GATE scorecard/result

GATE 2021 Result: How Marks are Calculated?

The performance of candidates in the GATE exam is evaluated by considering the marking scheme set by the exam conducting authorities. Each GATE paper is of 100 marks containing questions of 1 and 2 marks with 1/3 marks deducted for every incorrect answer.

For Single Session Papers:

For papers that are held in a single session, the marks of candidates is the actual score obtained after deducting the score of correct answers from the score of incorrect answers.

Marks = Score of correct answers – Score of incorrect answers

For Multiple Session Papers:

For GATE papers that are held in multiple sessions, the marks of candidates is the normalized marks by using a specifically developed formula. Normalization is done to do away with any possible parity in difficulty level of the exam which is held in multiple sessions.

GATE 2021 Result – How Scores are Calculated

The score of candidates in the GATE exam is calculated out of 1000 by using a specially developed formula. Admission of candidates in M.Tech courses and also the PSU recruitments are done on the basis of candidates score and not based on the actual marks obtained by the candidates. The formula which is used for calculating the GATE score is as follows

GATE Rank List 2021

The ranks of candidates are released along with the GATE result. Candidates will be able to check their position in the GATE rank list by logging in after the announcement of the result. The GATE authorities prepared one single, consolidated rank list for each subject and no category-wise rank lists are prepared. The rank of candidates is positioned on the basis of candidates marks in the GATE exam.

GATE 2021 Rank or Score?

Aspirants must not get confused between GATE rank and score. AIR 400 in the exam will get you in most of the IITs, while a score of 400 will get you to lower grade colleges. The GATE scorecard is valid for three years. Candidates can check good marks for top branches  in the table below:

M.Tech Admission through GATE 2021

The process of M.Tech admission is done by different modes for various institutions. For admission in IITs, candidates have to register online at COAP 2021 while for M.Tech admission in NITs, candidates have to register online for CCMT 2021. Besides registering for COAP, candidates also need to register to the individual IIT in which admission is desired. The allotment of seats is done on the basis of GATE scores and details of seat allotment are published on COAP/CCMT portal.

PSU Recruitment through GATE 2021

The details of recruitment through GATE will be announced by various PSUs alongside the announcement of GATE results. Candidates interested in PSU recruitment through GATE can apply from the website of PSUs. Candidates are shortlisted based on their score in the GATE exam while the selection process consists of a test/interview.

FAQs Regarding GATE result 2021

What is the scheduled date for the GATE 2021 result declaration?

GATE 2021 result is scheduled to be declared on March 22. However, it is expected that it will be announced by the IIT Bombay sooner as the final answer key of the GATE 2021 has been released by the authority on March 17. 

When will the GATE 2021 scorecard be available for the candidates to download?

GATE qualified candidates will be able to download their scorecard from the date of result declaration to May 31. Candidates have to a fee of Rs 500 for obtaining the GATE 2021 scorecard from May 31 to December 31. From January 1, 2022, onwards, no scorecard will be issued by the GATE authority for GATE 2021 qualified candidates.

What is the validity period of the GATE 2021 score?

GATE 2021 score is valid for the period of three years from the date of result announcement. The score used by various PSUs for recruitment and by a few foreign universities as well for admission.

What is the difference between the GATE score and GATE marks?

GATE score is calculated out of 1000 while GATE marks are calculated out of 100. A candidate who wishes to get direct admission into IISC/IITs must try to score nearly 1000.

The enrollment ID is important for students to check their GATE result 2021. Candidates who register for the exam get their enrollment ID on mail. They can also check the same on their admit card and printout of the submitted application.

Candidates among the top 200 scorers of the GATE exam for a particular subject/ paper may have a chance to get NIT.

What is a good GATE score for PSU?

Candidates with a rank around 150 in GATE have better chances of getting into the PSUs.

Can I get admission to IIT without GATE?

Yes, it is possible to get admission in IITs without GATE, but for that, you must require 8.0 or more cpi other than that you have to give a written test and will have to face the personal interview.

No, a duplicate GATE 2026 admit card will not be provided at the test center. Candidates must carry their own admit card along with the mentioned documents and items to the GATE exam center. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE admit card on January 2.

As such, the GATE authorities have not mentioned anything regarding the black and white or colour printout of the GATE admit card to be carried or not. But it is better to carry a colour printout of the hall ticket to the exam centre Also, the admit card of GATE must be in A4 size format.
