IIT Guwahati will release the list of number of candidates registered and qualified for GATE 2026 at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The GATE 2026 result will be announced on March 19. Candidates can check complete details. Last year, 936019 candidates had registered for the exam, out of which 747319 candidates had appeared for the GATE.

How many students qualified in the GATE

How many students qualified in GATE 2026: IIT Guwahati conducted GATE exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 in two shifts. The branch-wise exam dates have been released, and the GATE admit card 2026 is now available for download. After the announcement of result, the authorities will release the cutoff along with number of candidates registered and appeared in GATE 2026

As per the official notification, GATE 2026 result will be declared on March 19. Students will be able to check their result at GATE login using their enrollment ID and password.

GATE Participation Trend and Analysis Over the Years

Over past five years (2020-2024), GATE has experienced fluctuations in candidate registrations, exam attendance and qualifications. Number of GATE test papers has also increased. GATE two-paper combination was also included, offering more options to candidates.

2020

Around 858890 candidates registered for the GATE exam, out of which only 685088 (79.76%) candidates appeared for the GATE 2020.

2021

Registrations increased; around 10 Lakhs candidates registered for GATE 2021, of which 8 lakh (approx) candidates appeared for the exam. 

2022

There was a slight decrease in the registration and attendance rate. Around 8 lakhs registered, out of which 7.12 lakh candidates appeared for the GATE 2022.

2023

A total of 670,000 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 5.17 lakh candidates appeared for the GATE exam. 

2024

A significant rise was noticed with over 8.2 lakhs registering for the GATE across 30 test papers, and 6.53 lakh candidates attending.

In GATE, normalisation process generally makes a gap of 4 to 7 marks (approximately) between actual and normalised scores. However, if difficulty level of paper was high then the marks might increase. On other hand, for easier paper, marks may reduce offering fairness across sessions.

No, there is no subject-wise cutoff mark for GATE exam. The scores along with minimum-qualifying cutoff will be released (category-wise) along with normalised score.
