CLAT 2017 Exam Analysis & Cut-off

CLAT 2017, conducted by Chanakya National Law University, Patna on May 14, 2017, had a few surprises in its bag for the test-takers. This year approximately 45000 students went through this grueling test for a spot in one of the top NLUs. The level of exam was broadly tougher compared to the last year, with GK and Elementary Mathematics being distinctly more difficult. Total number of question was 200 and they were spread across five sections.

CLAT 2017: Section-wise Analysis by Experts

English section was easy for students though there was unexpected variation in the pattern of this section. A few questions here were deceptively easy and students would realize this only when they see the answers. A score of 31-32 can be considered very good here.

General Knowledge section, like always, came with a few shockers. From questions taken from events barely a week before the test to a very high focus on current affairs, this section was not for the faint-hearted. The section did not have more than 4 questions on static General Knowledge which is a clear departure from CLAT 2016.

The Mathematics section was harder for students compared to last year. Arithmetic was the star of this section with maximum number of questions from it. There was a question with a clear typo because of which none of the options of the question was correct. A well-prepared student could have managed a score of 15-16 here.

Legal Reasoning section turned out to be broadly easy for students. It had 15 questions on legal maxims, something that was again very different from previous year papers. The Legal Reasoning questions were mostly doable. A score of 39-40 can be considered good here.

Logical Reasoning section was easy for students, albeit being slightly tougher than the previous year.  Though surprisingly, a number of questions and concepts tested here were fit enough to be asked in Elementary Mathematics section.
