Can we delay the admission process for MBBS and BDS first year for 2020? Why are the authorities unwilling to give some clarity on NEET 2020 exam dates? Are we to assume that NEET 2020 will be conducted on July 26?
With less than a month left for NEET 2020 exam date, students are worried that their plea to postpone the examination is falling on deaf ears. Students now are expressing concerns regarding the exam date of NEET 2020 on various social media platforms. Citing examples of the examinations that have been cancelled for the current year owing to the COVID-19 situation in India, these students are putting up valid reasons to postpone NEET 2020.

The latest trend on twitter, #wakeupHRDpostponeNEETjee, is an attempt by the aspirants to make themselves visible. The students have tagged Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the Union Minister for Human Resource and Development in most of these tweets. Some have even tagged Dr Harsh Vardhan and MoHFW. The Ministers have spoken on various issues but somehow have refrained from addressing the queries of NEET and JEE Main aspirants. With the dates of the examinations closing in, the protests are gaining momentum. Here are a few tweets expressing the concerns of the students over NEET exam date.
Lack of public transportation facilities
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the only medical entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in India, which makes it one of the largest entrance examinations of the country. NEET 2020 is estimated to see more than 16 lakh test-takers. The authorities are planning to double the number of NEET exam centres, which will bring the number to an estimated 6,000. Even then, each test centre will host nearly 250 candidates.
An additional factor here is that most NEET aspirants are below the age of 18 years. They are accompanied by at least one parent to the exam centre. Therefore, each exam centre will have at least 500 people outside it before and after the examination.
The authorities could conduct smaller exams such as AIIMS PG and PGIMER because the number of test-takers was nothing as compared to NEET. The aspirants were all qualified doctors and were around the age of 24. The government prohibits large gatherings and weddings with more than 50 guests but is ok with conducting an examination with 500 or more people at one place.
However, the students now are merely asking for some clarity. It is high time the authorities break their silence on the exam dates for both NEET 2020 and JEE Mains. The students are desperate and the uncertainty is taking a toll on their mental health. Both these examinations are life altering and are very important for these students. As if the COVID-19 crisis, the resultant lockdown and social distancing from friends and family were not depressing enough, the vagueness around NEET 2020 is additional pressure on the students who are not even fully adults yet.

No, NEET is not necessary to get into clinical psychology colleges in India. There are other exams like GATE, which again is not required for many colleges offering the same.
