Q:   Can I get MBBS admission with a 300 score in NEET?
A:

It is possible to get admission to a private medical college with a score of 300 in NEET. For a government medical college, one should ideally obtain a score above 600. The NEET cutoff for the Government medical colleges varies as per the institute rank and round of counselling. Hence, it can be said that a score of 300 in NEET may not be sufficient for admission to Government medical colleges. As per past years' trends, a score between 500 to 700 or above is in the cutoff marks for NEET.

Q:   How many candidates appeared for NEET 2024?
A:

According to the reports, this year saw the highest number of NEET applications and appearance for the exam. A total of 24,06,079  candidates applied for the exam, out of which 23,33,297 candidates appeared. The exam was originally conducted on May 5, 2024, in 571 cities across India and abroad. A re-test for 1,563 candidates who were awarded grace marks on May 5, was conducted on June 23, 2024. In this exam, 813 candidates had appeared.

Q:   Which courses can I pursue after appearing for NEET exam?
A:

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a national level medical entrance exam for undergraduate courses. It is the gateway to admission to multiple medical and paramedical courses. Although earlier NEET scores were considered for MBBS and BDS courses only, but now, there are multiple courses including medical, dental, nursing and other paramedical courses, the admission to which are conducted through NEET scores. Q: Were you expecting your rank?

A: No, I didn't expect it on rank. Honestly, I didn't know what would come on rank.

Q: When and how did you decide to pursue MBBS?

A: My grandfather passed away in the year 2019. He used to say that there is no doctor in our family. So I was inspired to pursue MBBS from the time when I was in class 9 and I decided to join the medical line.

Q: Tell us something about your family, schooling, etc.

A: Yes, my father's name is Chanchal Kumar Pati. He was a mechanical engineer. He used to work in Nigeria in Africa. He left his job in 2016. He left his job for my studies and now he is at home. My mother's name is Rumpa Pati. She works as a nurse in a government hospital. I don't have brothers or sisters, I am a single child.

I studied at a government school near my house - Simlapal Madan Mohan High School. I have completed class 5 to class 12 in this school.

Q: When did you start preparing for NEET and what was the strategy?

A: I started preparing for NEET from class 11. I prepared for two years in class 11 and 12. I took admission to the Allen Institute in Kota. Here, I prepared with the help of the institute. About the strategy, the trend with NEET is that in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, it is very important to complete NCERT books. So, I prepared and read NCERT very carefully. Along with that, I solved all the questions I got from the modules and books available. I prepared all subjects from these books and modules. For eg- in Biology, I marked all lines of the NCERT book and memorized every data and table. So, in Biology I prepared all concepts and in Physics also, I solved many questions. So, all the concepts were clear and I solved questions in physics and chemistry. So, it was easy to solve during the exam.

Q: What were your strong and weak areas?

A: While preparing, my strong area was physics and my weak was actually inorganic chemistry.

When did you start giving mock tests for NEET?

A: Mock tests were given to us as soon as we were studying here in Allen. We used to have mock tests here once a month. I started doing mock tests when I was in Class 11.

Q: Which books did you refer to for NEET?

A: For Physics, one can do HC Verma, for Chemistry, RC Mukherjee is good.

Q: How did you balance your NEET preparation along with your school and board exams?

In 11th, there was not much tension about the board. So, during Class 11th, the main focus was on NEET preparation. And in Class 12th, when we were taught the topics for boards, we studied along with it, such as how to write a definition, or any other important questions so that the concept got clear for the NEET as well. The board preparation was also being done in parallel with NEET and when the board has one month left, I solved the board papers to get confidence.

Q: How did the lockdown impact your preparation and how did you cope with it?

Some problems occurred during the lockdown period but it got resolved soon. At Allen Institute, all system became online, so there were not much of a backlog, teachers tried their best to teach the concepts properly online. They used to clear our doubts. So, I didn’t face many problems during the lockdown.

Q: What was your exam taking strategy?

When I went to give the exam, I didn't think about the marks and ranks. One should go with a cool mind thinking it is a new day, a new paper. I thought whatever I know, I will attempt. I will do it easily and read all the questions well whether it is small or big. I will get 4 marks for each question. I don't want to give less importance to any of the questions. So, you have to read all the questions well and see all four options carefully while filling out the OMR sheet.

Q: During your rigorous preparation journey, how did you unwind yourself?

To unwind I used to talk to my parents. Whenever I used to get some time, I used to listen to music and bhajans.

Q: Which is your dream medical college?

A: My dream medical college is AIIMS Delhi.

Q: What are your plans after completing MBBS?

A: My plan is to do MD in cardiology.

Q: Your suggestion for next year’s NEET takers.

A: I would say to them that they should make a schedule and stick to it. And whatever you study, study it with consistency. It's not like study for 6 hours one day and 12 hours the next day. Don't do that. Study with consistency and clear every line, every subtopic, and every chapter of NCERT so that you don't miss any questions in the exam.
