Postpone NEET 2021 to October: Demand Students

With the announcement of NEET UG exam dates on June 12, aspirants heaved a sigh of relief. The commencement of the NEET application process on June 13, along with the release of the information bulletin, reassured the students about the conduct of NEET 2021 which was much-awaited. However, ever since the date of postponement of JEE Main fourth phase has been announced, NEET 2021 candidates have started demanding that the exam be postponed to October.

According to the NEET aspirants, with lakhs of candidates appearing for the exam, there would be a higher risk of contracting the coronavirus since the third wave is predicted to hit by mid-September. Moreover, not all candidates for NEET 2021 have been vaccinated yet and it would be a humongous task to vaccinate approximately 16 lakh applicants of NEET 2021.

Candidates have taken to social media to release their thoughts and seek attention of the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on rescheduling NEET 2021 dates to October. With the booming number of tweets, the hashtag #PostponeNEET2021toOctober has started trending.

Taking to Twitter, students have stated that a number of NEET candidates take other national level entrance exams such as JEE or COMEDK. Hence, they should get at least two to three weeks in order to be better prepared.

The third wave of COVID-19 is one of the major reasons students want NEET 2021 to be postponed.

With the change in the NEET exam pattern and structure, students feel that they need more time to prepare and adapt to the new system.

Amid the demands of NEET 2021 postponement to October, there are several candidates who want the exam to be conducted on the stipulated date to avoid further stress and anxiety. According to them, two months time is enough to prepare for the new exam pattern of NEET 2021.

NEET 2021 is scheduled to be held on September 12 in 198 cities across India and one international city, Kuwait. This year, the exam will be conducted in 13 languages instead of 11. Two new languages which have been added this year are Punjabi and Malayalam.

There are more colleges that accept a NEET score in comparison to those accepting CUET scores. CUET offers less competition and lower cutoff, but also a lesser option of colleges to choose from.

Time required for preparation is subjective to each student. Candidate A might understand the course material better than Candidate B, which ultimately will affect the time consumed to prepare for the exam. Ideally though, a year should be more than enough time to prepare for the exam.

A candidate can apply for NEET if they are between 17 and 35. Another condition is passing class 12th with minimum 50% in PCB stream. During application process, students have to submit documents proving their age. If there are any differences, the application can be rejected.
