Expected JEE Main 2025 Cutoff for JEE Advanced for General, OBC, SC/ST, EWS Categories

Experts have observed that when around 8 to 10 lakh students took the JEE Main exam, the passing score, or cutoff, was typically between 88 to 90 percentile. However, last year in 2024, the number of students who attempted the exam increased to 14 lakh, and so did the cutoff score. In fact, last year's cutoff was the highest it had been in the past five years across all categories.

Looking ahead to this year, during the January session of JEE Mains 2025, about 13 lakh students participated. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released the number of candidates for the April exam. If the total number of unique participants for both the January and April sessions reaches around 14 lakh again, we can expect the cutoff to be similar to last year's. If even more students appear this year, the cutoff score could increase once again.

Based on the trends and the analysis of the JEE Main 2025 April and January session exams, below is the expected JEE Main 2025 cutoff to qualify for JEE Advanced 2025:

  • General Category: The expected JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced for general category candidates is expected to be around 93 to 94 percentile.
  • OBC Category: For OBC candidates, the expected cutoff is likely to be around 79 to 83 percentile. In the January session highest number of candidates who registered and appeared for JEE Main was from the OBC category. Thus, it can be expected that this year, the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025 can rise significantly for the OBC category.
  • SC/ST Categories: The cutoff for SC and ST candidates is generally lower, and experts predict it to be between 48 to 65 percentile this year.
  • Gen-EWS: The cutoff for SC and ST candidates is generally lower, and experts predict it to be between 83 to 86 percentile this year.

In 2024, the JEE Main cutoff for JEE Advanced was 93.2362181 for UR; 79.6757881 for OBC; 81.3266412 for EWS-ALL; 0.0018700 for UR-PWD, 60.0923182 for SC-ALL and 46.6975840 for ST-ALL.

Note that several factors play a crucial role in determining the JEE Mains cutoff for JEE Advanced after the January and April session exams, such as the difficulty level of both the JEE Main 2025 January and April sessions play a vital role in deciding the cutoff. If the exams are relatively tougher, the cutoff tends to decrease, while an easier exam could lead to a higher cutoff. Students often compare the difficulty of the two sessions, and the final cutoff is adjusted accordingly.

Also, the overall number of candidates appearing for the JEE Main 2025 exams, along with the number of candidates who score above the required percentile, directly impacts the cutoff. More candidates scoring higher marks can lead to a higher cutoff for JEE Advanced eligibility.

Additionally, any modifications in the eligibility criteria or changes in the number of seats in the participating institutes can affect the cutoff. The previous years have seen slight adjustments in these areas, leading to fluctuations in the cutoff ranks.

Finally, as the JEE Main is held in multiple shifts and sessions, a normalization process is used to account for variations in difficulty levels across different sets of papers. This process can significantly impact the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025.
